Referment
Referment is working with a fast-growing short-term insurance provider that makes car insurance flexible, quick and easy for drivers, part of a larger group of UK comparison and financial brands. The company is overhauling its systems to modernise and power the next generation of its technology, and this Senior Software Engineer will help shape that journey with genuine ownership and impact.
The Role
You will evolve, enhance and modernise large-scale insurance systems, both public-facing and internal, driving the adoption of Go and improving the performance, reliability and scalability of the systems. You will develop automation for deployment, monitoring and scaling of infrastructure, and build the tools and processes that enable continuous integration and delivery. A solid understanding of platform and reliability engineering approaches, including observability, performance optimisation, analytics and security best practices, underpins the role. You will also facilitate collaboration between teams, mentor more junior engineers on coding standards and troubleshooting, and help build a culture of continuous improvement.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

This role is hybrid: two days a week in the London office and roughly once a month at the Fleet office.
This could suit a senior backend engineer who enjoys modernising core systems in a high-growth insurtech and mentoring others, rather than waiting for perfectly specified work.
“It took my CV and asked me questions relevant to understanding what kind of jobs to suggest for me. Suggestions were almost perfect. Jobs were exactly what I’ve been looking for.”
