ABOUT THE ROLE

We’re hiring a Product Minded Software Engineer for the Growth team: a cross-functional team of engineers, Product Owner, designer and business owners focused on Journey 1 - from onboarding through to a customer’s first arrears point. Growth owns the customer and commercial journey end to end, plus the single-writer services behind it.

You’ll work close to the product and the business, not just the codebase. That means shaping problems, building the solution, measuring whether it moved the metric, and owning the feature in production. The team’s north star is growing the amount of good balances, with drivers including onboarding funnel conversion, utilisation, app reliability and onboarding fraud / ID-failure rates.

This is a hands-on product engineering role. You’ll build customer-facing journeys across app, web and backend services, improve onboarding and engagement, and help the team make better product decisions through technical options, fast delivery and strong operational ownership.

TECH STACK

Backend: Node.js / TypeScript on AWS — serverless services using Lambda, API Gateway, DynamoDB, S3, SNS, SQS, EventBridge and Kinesis, alongside containerised workloads where needed

Frontend: React Native / Expo / React / Next.js

Infrastructure: Terraform, GitHub Actions CI/CD, Docker

Observability: Datadog, Grafana, Prometheus, Loki

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Work as a product engineer in Growth: understand the customer problem, shape the technical approach with Product and Design, and ship changes that improve Journey 1 outcomes
  • Build and improve onboarding, acquisition funnel conversion, login, account management, card management, personal details and other customer-facing Growth features
  • Own features in production: monitor health, respond to issues, maintain runbooks, and make sure we know about degraded journeys before the business or customers tell us
  • Take first-pass ownership of bugs and support queries that surface in Journey 1, fixing what is ours and handing over with diagnosis when the root cause sits with another service owner
  • Contribute across the services Growth owns, including onboarding, biometrics, APR, CLM, legal service, alert service, app and website front end
  • When Growth work extends a service owned by another team, build it under that team’s contributor rules rather than handing it off
  • Use data and product context to make better engineering choices: understand conversion, utilisation, reliability and fraud / ID-failure drivers, and connect technical work to measurable outcomes
  • Write clean, tested, maintainable code and documentation so the team can move quickly without losing quality
  • Collaborate closely with engineers, Product, Design, QA and business owners, bringing technical options early rather than waiting for fully formed tickets

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

ABOUT YOU

SKILLS / ATTRIBUTES

  • You think like a product engineer: you care about the customer outcome, the commercial goal and the production behaviour, not just completing a ticket
  • You enjoy working in a cross-functional team with Product, Design and business owners, and you can turn ambiguous goals into pragmatic, shippable increments
  • You’re comfortable across frontend, backend and cloud services, and you know when to go deep in one area to solve the right problem
  • You care about reliability, observability and feature health because Growth journeys directly affect onboarding, utilisation and customer trust
  • You communicate clearly with engineers, product and business stakeholders, including explaining trade-offs and risks in plain language
  • You’re pragmatic in a startup: happy to move quickly, improve legacy areas safely, and choose boring technology when boring is right

  • Can operate effectively under ambiguity
