Job Description About the role We are looking for a Senior Product Engineer, you'll be an integral part of our dynamic Wise for Banks team, working at the forefront of innovation, playing a key role in building scalable and robust systems that power our global payment network. You'll collaborate closely with Implementation, Solutions Engineering and Business Development teams and other Wise Engineering teams to support partner integrations alongside Product managers and embark on new and thrilling projects that expand our network of global partnerships. With expertise in Java, Spring Boot, Kafka, and PostgreSQL you'll design and implement highly available, resilient services to support our partner ecosystem's rapid growth. Collaborate with talented Engineering teams, explore various domains and contribute to over 700 Microservices at Wise. Team up with the delivery team and product managers to integrate our platform with global partners and drive the development of high-quality money transfers with unmatched speed. To excel in this role, you should have a passion for building the future of international payments and a strong drive to connect banks and businesses globally with maximum ease and speed. Our team Partner Cash Management builds and maintains the infrastructure that enables banks to fund, hold, and manage money efficiently within interbank payment networks. Our platform helps partners optimise liquidity, support seamless payments, and manage foreign exchange (FX) risk at scale. What will you be doing? Design, develop, and maintain highly scalable services in Java and Spring Boot within a microservices architecture. Apply domain-driven design to build robust, scalable solutions. Lead development efforts in event-driven architectures using Kafka or similar messaging systems. Architect, design, and optimise relational databases (e.g., PostgreSQL) to ensure performance and scalability. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to support partner integrations and expand the Wise payment platform globally. Participate in code reviews, champion best coding practices and mentor junior engineers. Qualifications What do you need? We are fully aware that it is uncommon for a candidate to have all skills required and we fully support everyone in learning new skills with us. So if you have some of those listed below and are eager to learn more we do want to hear from you! Extensive experience with Java and Spring Boot for building backend services or similar languages and/or frameworks. Strong expertise in microservices architecture and event-driven design. Hands-on experience with Kafka or similar messaging systems. Strong knowledge of relational databases like PostgreSQL, with the ability to design schemas, optimise queries, and ensure data integrity. Proficiency in domain-driven design (DDD) to model complex business domains is a plus A strong product mindset and passion for user experience, you prioritise work with the customers in mind and make data-driven decisions to fix customer pain-points Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently or in a collaborative team environment. Strong communication skills, with the ability to convey technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences. …but don’t worry we don’t expect you to know everything!
