**About the Role**
The **Contacts team** is a core team at Wise, dedicated to making adding, finding, and managing your recipients as simple as possible. You’ll own this experience end-to-end: from the scalable platform securing tens of millions of bank accounts to intelligent search algorithms, local integrations (such as **Pix**) that power discovery, all the way to the customer-facing screens where users interact with their counterparties.
The team is integral to Wise’s day-to-day operations — if our services go down, **Wise goes down**.

**How We Work**
We operate in an **agile** fashion, with engineers collaborating closely with designers, product managers, and analysts. The team spans our **Tallinn** and **London** offices.

Key Responsibilities You’ll be part of an autonomous team, driving the technical vision for the backend solution powering recipients' user experience. Your work will help scale-up and build a world-class recipient management product.
Requirements
We understand not every candidate will have all qualifications — and we welcome curiosity and enthusiasm as much as experience.
Core Skills
- Proven ability to deliver results efficiently
- Experience with large-scale distributed systems
- Strong Java expertise
- Experience working with relational and non-relational databases, query optimisation and schema design
- A product-focused mindset with passion for customer experience — prioritising customer needs to address pain points using data-driven decisions
- Collaboration-focused with strong problem-solving collaboration skills
- Experience in designing, deploying, and maintaining clean RESTful APIs
- Commitment to best coding practices, code reviews, and open feedback
- Enthusiasm for testable code and Test-Driven Development
