Job Description

About the Role

We’re hiring a Senior Product Engineer to join our Wise for Banks team. As a key player in our dynamic engineering group, you’ll:

  • Drive the innovation stack for Wise’s cutting-edge global payment network.
  • Design scalable and robust systems supporting partner integrations with Implementation, Solutions Engineering, Business Development, and broader Wise Engineering teams.
  • Explore new opportunities to expand our network of global financial partnerships, collaborating closely with Product Managers and engineering leads.

With expertise in Java, Spring Boot, Kafka, and PostgreSQL, you’ll:

  • Build highly available, resilient services that underpin our partner ecosystem’s growth.
  • Work alongside 700+ microservices at Wise.
  • Architect inclusive and high-quality international payment solutions at speed.

The Partner Cash Management team builds and maintains the infrastructure for banks to:

  • Fund, hold, and manage money efficiently.
  • Enable seamless payments within interbank systems.
  • Optimise liquidity and FX risk at scale.

Our platform integrates bank partnerships, reducing friction and cost.


What You’ll Be Doing

  • Design, develop, and maintain highly scalable Java and Spring Boot services in a microservices architecture.
  • Apply domain-driven design (DDD) to build robust, scalable solutions.
  • Lead the development of event-driven architectures, leveraging Kafka and similar systems.
  • Architect and optimise PostgreSQL databases for performance and scalability.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams (Engineering, Product, Implementation) to scale global partner integrations.
  • Participate in code reviews, enforce best practices, and mentor junior engineers.

Qualifications

What You’ll Need

We recognise that a perfect candidate may not exist, and welcome lifelong learners who want to grow with us. Key skills include:

  • Extensive experience with Java and Spring Boot (or similar backend technologies/frameworks).
  • Strong expertise in microservices architecture and event-driven design.
  • Hands-on Kafka (or similar) event-messaging systems experience.
  • Proficient in PostgreSQL—schema design, query optimisation, and data integrity.
  • A plus-mindset for domain-driven design to model complex business domains.
  • A technical product mindset with a focus on:
    • User experience considerations in product design.
    • Data-driven decisions to solve user pain points.
  • Strong problem-solving skills—whether working independently or collaboratively.
  • Clear technical communication abilities—simplifying complex ideas for both technical and non-technical audiences.
