Senior Software Engineer – AI, Cloud & Full-Stack Engineering - FTC 18 months

Our client is building technology designed to modernise an established sector through AI, data and modern software engineering. They’re looking for a Senior Software Engineer to become a key contributor within their R&D-focused technology team on a fixed-term contract.
This is an opportunity to work across the complete engineering lifecycle: experimenting and prototyping, building production-quality applications, solving integration challenges and getting technology successfully deployed. You’ll also have the scope to lead projects end-to-end, mentor engineers and step into technical leadership and line management as the team develops.

- Own meaningful engineering challenges, helping develop, test and maintain new products, projects and technical initiatives.
- Build across a modern technology stack including React, TypeScript, Material UI, Node.js, Python, PostgreSQL, Docker, Kubernetes, Helm and AWS.
- Take software from experimentation to reality, working across prototyping, integration, deployment and operationalisation.
- Collaborate closely with AI and product specialists, including Machine Learning Engineers, ML Scientists and Product Managers.
- Shape engineering standards, improving internal tooling, reusable frameworks, development practices and deployment approaches.
- Champion excellent engineering, using code reviews, pair programming and mentoring to help other developers grow.
- Solve complex technical problems, particularly around software, data, integrations and production deployments.
- Influence technical direction, communicating trade-offs, risks and delivery considerations to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Develop your leadership experience, taking the lead on engineering projects and potentially supporting people through line management as the team grows.

About You
This could be a particularly exciting next move if you’re an experienced Software Engineer, Senior Software Engineer, Full-Stack Engineer or Backend Engineer who enjoys solving complex problems and wants exposure to AI and data-driven technology.
Our client’s wishlist includes strong commercial software engineering experience and confidence with at least a couple of technologies such as Python, TypeScript, relational databases, APIs, Docker, Kubernetes, Kubeflow or AWS.
You’ll get to build on solid software engineering and DevOps foundations, including CI/CD, version control, containerisation and cloud deployment, while producing clean, maintainable and well-tested software.
A STEM degree or equivalent practical experience would fit well, but practical capability matters too. Experience designing distributed cloud systems, deploying machine learning, AI or data-driven applications, or acting as a Technical Lead or Line Manager would be particularly useful rather than an expectation that every candidate ticks every box.
