Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

How will I use AI at Roku?

At Roku, AI agents do most of the keystroke-level coding. Engineers act as the technical leads for those agents — setting architecture, reviewing output, and ensuring everything meets Roku's quality bar. If you've already shipped features where an AI agent wrote the initial code and you steered it to production, or you've built fluency across the agentic engineering toolchain — coding harnesses like Claude Code or Cursor, MCP servers, custom skills, or agent frameworks. And you can describe a clear, repeatable workflow: how you prompt, how you scope tasks, how you drive an agent, verify its output, and ramp on an unfamiliar codebase with an agent helping you.

At Roku, we're embracing AI as a powerful tool to amplify human creativity, accelerate innovation, and deliver better results across the company. You already have experience using AI tools — or you're excited to learn how — to enhance your work, make smarter decisions, and collaborate more effectively. Whether you're in engineering, marketing, finance, HR, or any other team, AI will be part of how you work here. We want to talk to you.

What are the responsibilities of the role?

  • Design, develop, and deploy scalable web applications and services, contributing to web technology and framework stack decisions, use case design, and data model design
  • Drive architecture discussions, take ownership and responsibility over new projects, and deliver high-quality software within tight timelines
  • Partner with security and compliance teams to ensure applications meet compliance, security, and audit requirements
  • Participate in the continual improvement of engineering tools, cloud-based technologies and services, and development processes
  • Define and participate in Agile development processes, including scoping, technical design, estimation, coding, testing, debugging, code reviews, maintenance, and support
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams and demonstrate strong communication skills
  • Develop and maintain microservices using modern frameworks and cloud-native technologies
  • Implement Infrastructure as Code (IaC) workflows to support reliable and repeatable deployments

What experience would help someone be successful in this role at Roku?

  • 5+ years of experience delivering multi-tier, highly scalable, distributed web applications
  • Deep understanding of software architecture, object-oriented design principles, and data structures
  • Strong experience with test-driven development and test automation
  • Extensive experience developing microservices
  • Experience with Infrastructure as Code (IaC) workflows
  • Demonstrated ability to be proactive, self-driven, and make practical trade-offs based on business needs
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science or equivalent practical experience
  • Experience developing finance applications is a plus
  • Working experience with Terraform is a plus
  • Experience creating workflows for Apache Airflow is a plus

What should I know about Roku's culture?

Roku is a great place for people who want to work in a fast-paced environment where everyone is focused on the company's success rather than their own. We try to surround ourselves with people who are great at their jobs, who are easy to work with, and who keep their egos in check. We appreciate a sense of humor. We believe a fewer number of very talented folks can do more for less cost than a larger number of less talented teams. We're independent thinkers with big ideas who act boldly, move fast and accomplish extraordinary things through collaboration and trust. In short, at Roku you'll be part of a company that's changing how the world watches TV.

We have a unique culture that we are proud of. We think of ourselves primarily as problem-solvers, which itself is a two-part idea. We come up with the solution, but the solution isn't real until it is built and delivered to the customer. That penchant for action gives us a pragmatic approach to innovation, one that has served us well since 2002.
