Role: Senior Software Engineer – Java, Cloud and AI
Location: London, UK
Type: Contract (inside IR35)
Overview:
This role is within Enterprise Platforms, working as part of an agile team building and evolving platform services, integrations, and data-enabled solutions supporting enterprise communication data and regulatory controls.
The role focuses on designing, developing, and operating secure, reliable, scalable systems supporting business controls, analytics, reporting, and AI/ML use cases.
Job Responsibilities:
- Execute software solutions including design, development, and technical troubleshooting
- Use Java, Spring, and Spring Boot to build durable solutions and solve complex technical problems
- Create secure, high-quality production code for microservices and REST APIs
- Develop synchronous and asynchronous processing components integrating with dependent systems
- Produce architecture and design artefacts for complex applications, including:
- Service boundaries
- Data flows
- Interface contracts
- Resiliency patterns
- Ensure design constraints are implemented and validated through software development
- Gather, analyse, synthesise, and develop visualisations/reporting from large, diverse datasets
- Identify hidden issues and patterns in code, logs, and data
- Improve coding hygiene, reduce defects, and strengthen system architecture and scalability
- Contribute to software engineering communities of practice and technical forums
- Support collaboration, mentoring, and constructive feedback
- Leverage enterprise-authorized AI coding-assist tools to improve code quality, delivery speed, and productivity
- Validate AI-generated outputs through peer review, automated testing, and secure coding standards
- Apply knowledge of enterprise-authorized AI-assisted development and automation capabilities
- Use AI-assisted development tools for coding, test creation, troubleshooting, and documentation
- Critically evaluate, validate, and refine AI-generated outputs for correctness, performance, and security
- Follow responsible AI practices, including data sensitivity, secure input/output handling, resiliency, and security expectations

Required Qualifications, Capabilities & Skills:
- Hands-on practical experience in system design, application development, testing, and operational stability for production systems
- Demonstrated ability to code in Java with Spring and Spring Boot
- Experience with microservices architecture and REST API development
- Experience developing, debugging, and maintaining enterprise-scale applications
- Experience with modern programming languages and database querying languages such as:
- MS SQL Server
- Oracle
- SQL
- Overall knowledge of the Software Development Life Cycle, including requirements, design, development, testing, release, and support
- Solid understanding of agile delivery practices, including:
- CI/CD
- Application resiliency
- Security fundamentals
- Knowledge of software applications and technical processes within technical disciplines such as cloud
- Experience deploying and operating services in cloud or hybrid environments
- Experience using enterprise-authorized AI coding-assist tools
- Experience with enterprise-authorized AI-assisted software development tools
- Ability to validate AI-generated outputs for correctness, performance, and security
- Understanding of responsible AI use in engineering workflows

Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience building data products on Databricks using Lakehouse patterns
- Experience with Delta Lake and Medallion Architecture
- Familiarity with enterprise data platforms and data mesh principles
- Exposure to data quality, observability, and metadata management practices/tools
- Experience enabling analytics, reporting, and AI/ML workloads through curated datasets
- Experience developing or supporting regulatory control use cases, including auditability, traceability, and evidence-driven controls
- Experience with Infrastructure as Code using Terraform and/or CloudFormation
- Experience with environment provisioning and repeatable deployments
- Experience designing event-driven architectures using AWS services such as:
- SQS
- SNS
- EventBridge
- Knowledge of asynchronous processing and resiliency patterns
