Expleo is seeking a Senior Software Engineer – Marine Training Systems
Expleo is seeking a Senior Software Engineer – Marine Training Systems to support the development, maintenance, integration, and deployment of advanced training and simulation systems operating within secure defence environments.
The role is focused on sustaining and enhancing operational simulation and training solutions throughout their support lifecycle. Working as part of a multidisciplinary engineering team, the successful candidate will contribute to software development, verification, system integration, release activities, and customer deployments across a range of naval and defence training platforms.
This position offers the opportunity to work on complex, mission-critical systems used by defence customers, supporting software updates, capability enhancements, and the ongoing reliability of operational training environments.
This role is based full-time on-site, working directly alongside customer engineering and assurance teams throughout programme execution.
Responsibilities
- Develop, modify, and maintain software applications supporting training and simulation systems.
- Perform software testing, verification, and defect resolution activities.
- Support software patching, server updates, and system maintenance activities.
- Participate in system integration activities involving hardware interfaces, networks, and external systems.
- Support software releases through established acceptance and deployment processes including FAT, TRR, TCR, and customer site deployment.
- Investigate and resolve complex technical issues affecting operational systems.
- Produce and maintain technical documentation and engineering artefacts.
- Support deployment, installation, and troubleshooting activities at customer locations.
- Work collaboratively with systems, software, integration, and support teams.
- Contribute to continuous improvement of engineering and support processes.
- Ensure compliance with quality, safety, and security requirements.

Qualifications
- Degree qualified in Software Engineering, Computer Science, Systems Engineering, or a related STEM discipline.
- Equivalent industry experience will be considered where supported by relevant technical expertise and engineering delivery experience.
Essential Skills
- Strong software development skills in C and/or C++.
- Software debugging, troubleshooting, and fault investigation.
- Software testing and verification.
- Microsoft Visual Studio development environment.
- Windows operating systems and applications support.
- Configuration and version control using SVN/Tortoise SVN or equivalent tools.
- Experience integrating software with hardware interfaces and networked systems.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving capability.
- Technical documentation and communication skills.
- Ability to work effectively within multidisciplinary engineering teams.
Desired Skills
- ADA development experience.
- Active Directory administration and support.
- VMware virtualization technologies.
- Windows Server administration.
- Software deployment and release management.
- Training and simulation systems experience.

Experience
- Significant experience in software engineering within a commercial, defence, or regulated engineering environment.
- Experience developing software using C and/or C++.
- Experience supporting software verification and test activities.
- Experience maintaining and enhancing operational or deployed software systems.
- Experience working within structured release and deployment processes.
- Experience integrating software with hardware and networked systems.
- Experience troubleshooting and resolving complex software defects.
- Experience working as part of multidisciplinary engineering teams.
Desired Experience
- Defence sector experience.
- Maritime, naval, or training systems experience.
- Experience within simulation or synthetic training environments.
- Active Directory administration experience.
- Experience working within secure facilities or classified environments.
- VMware administration or support experience.
- Experience supporting customer deployments and operational acceptance activities.
- Experience maintaining legacy software systems and mixed-language codebases.
What Do I Need Before I Apply
- Must be eligible to obtain and maintain UK Security Clearance (SC).
- Willingness to work within secure defence facilities and controlled environments.
- Willingness to travel occasionally to customer sites.
- Must be capable of working on operational support and maintenance activities for deployed systems.
- Must be eligible to work in the United Kingdom.
