Senior Software Engineer - Market Data
This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Senior Software Engineer - Market Data based in the United Kingdom.
This role offers the opportunity to build and scale high-performance systems that power modern financial markets.
- You will contribute to the architecture and evolution of market data platforms supporting millions of users worldwide.
- The position focuses on designing resilient, low-latency backend services and developer-first APIs for financial data products.
- You will work on complex engineering challenges involving distributed systems, cloud infrastructure, and real-time data processing.
- As part of a globally distributed engineering environment, you will collaborate with experienced developers, traders, and financial technology specialists.

Accountabilities
In this role, you will:
- Design, develop, and maintain the core systems that support market data products, ensuring reliability, scalability, and exceptional performance.
- Contribute to architectural decisions, solve complex technical challenges, and collaborate across engineering teams to deliver robust solutions.
- Influence the overall architecture and evolution of market data systems, including streaming and historical data services.
- Design and implement highly scalable, mission-critical backend systems with a focus on performance and reliability.
- Build and maintain backend services, APIs, and infrastructure components that support financial data products.
- Optimize systems for low latency and high throughput, focusing on performance improvements at every level.
- Ensure strong software quality through testing, code reviews, documentation, and engineering best practices.
- Troubleshoot production incidents, investigate bugs, and contribute to continuous system improvements.
- Participate in on-call rotations when required to support critical engineering initiatives.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver scalable solutions aligned with business and customer needs.

Requirements
The ideal candidate is an experienced software engineer with strong backend development skills, a deep understanding of distributed systems, and a passion for building reliable technology at scale. You should be comfortable working on complex infrastructure challenges and have experience leading technical initiatives.
- 4+ years of experience building and operating large-scale software systems.
- Strong experience with compiled programming languages such as Go, C, C++, Rust, or similar technologies.
- Experience with SQL and relational databases.
- Solid understanding of networking concepts, including TCP/IP and UDP.
- Proficiency with Linux/BSD environments and shell scripting.
- Experience designing and leading medium-scale technical projects involving multiple teams.
- Hands-on experience with Kubernetes or other workload orchestration platforms.
- Experience working with major cloud platforms, especially Google Cloud environments.
- Strong understanding of software architecture, scalability, and distributed systems.
- Passion for financial markets and interest in building technology for the financial industry.
- Ability to collaborate effectively in a remote, global engineering environment.
Nice-to-have Qualifications Include
- Experience working with market data platforms or financial technology systems.
- Knowledge of microservice architectures and clean code principles.
- Experience with DevOps practices, CI/CD pipelines, and infrastructure automation.
- Familiarity with cloud networking concepts such as BGP and VPC peering.
- Experience building low-latency applications and distributed key-value storage systems.
- Knowledge of observability, tracing, continuous profiling, and performance monitoring.
- Experience with capacity planning, benchmarking, and Agile/Scrum methodologies.
