Senior Software Engineer - Node.js and TypeScript
Max Rate: £475 Outside IR35
6 Month Initial Contract
Travel to the office in York, but as and when required. Will likely be a few times a month.

Our platform integrates vast amounts of live and historical train, infrastructure, and sensor data to help railway organizations operate more safely and efficiently. As a Senior Software Engineer on our Platform team, you'll have the opportunity to influence our technological evolution, moving from established C#/.NET systems to modern TypeScript, Node.js, and AWS-native architectures.

What You'll Bring:
- Proven expertise in TypeScript and Node.js backend development, with experience designing exceptional APIs and data integrations.
- Deep understanding of cloud-native architectures, particularly AWS, including serverless and event-driven systems.
- Proficiency with Infrastructure as Code practices for deploying and managing cloud environments.
- Strong experience with relational databases like SQL, data modelling, and large-scale data processing.
- Practical knowledge of automated testing, CI/CD pipelines, and observability best practices.
- Familiarity with modern AI coding tools such as Claude Code or OpenAI Codex, and the ability to integrate AI into software workflows responsibly.
- Excellent problem-solving skills in diagnosing complex issues across applications and infrastructure.
- Ability to work independently, take ownership of systems, and collaborate effectively within a multidisciplinary team.

Nice-to-Have Skills:
- Experience with C# and .NET, particularly in modernising existing software.
- Knowledge of AWS services like Lambda, S3, SQS, SNS, API Gateway.
- Background in containers, Docker, React, or large-scale data solutions.
- Exposure to rail or transport industry data and operations.
Preferred Education & Experience:
- A degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related discipline.
- Several years of professional experience in backend development, cloud architecture, or data engineering.
Additional Requirements:
- A proactive approach to system security, dependability, and cost optimisation.
- Willingness to mentor colleagues and contribute to technical standards.
