About The Role
At Visa, our Middleware Product Reliability Engineering (PRE) team is evolving into a modern software engineering organization focused on building intelligent, scalable systems that keep critical platforms running globally.
This is a hands-on engineering role where you'll design and build software that improves reliability, automation, observability, and resilience across Visa's middleware ecosystem.

What You'll Do
Build Production-Grade Software
- Design and develop scalable automation platforms and reliability tooling
- Write clean, maintainable code in Python, Java, or Go
- Build systems for deployment orchestration, testing, validation, and rollback
- Develop self-service platforms that reduce operational toil and improve engineering productivity
Improve Reliability & Observability
- Enhance monitoring, alerting, and system visibility across critical middleware platforms
- Troubleshoot production issues and implement durable, long-term engineering solutions
- Improve performance, resiliency, and operational readiness
- Leverage metrics, logs, traces, and automation signals to drive reliability improvements
Contribute to AI-Driven Engineering
- Build intelligent automation and AI-assisted operational workflows
- Develop agent-based and LLM-powered solutions that improve reliability and engineering efficiency
- Evaluate, validate, and operationalize AI-generated outputs using sound engineering practices
- Partner with cross-functional teams to bring modern AI capabilities into production environments
Collaborate and Grow
- Work in an Agile, engineering-focused environment
- Contribute to architecture discussions, code reviews, and engineering standards
- Share knowledge and mentor other engineers
- Partner with globally distributed teams to deliver reliable, scalable solutions
Visa requires at least 3 days in office, expectations of these days will be confirmed by your Hiring Manager.
Qualifications
Basic Qualifications:
- 2+ years of relevant work experience and a Bachelors degree, OR 5+ years of relevant work experience
Preferred Qualifications
- 3 or more years of work experience with a Bachelor’s Degree or more than 2 years of work experience with an Advanced Degree (e.g. Masters, MBA, JD, MD)
What We're Looking For
Core Requirements
- 1-5 years of software engineering experience, or equivalent SRE-DevOps experience with strong software development skills
- Strong programming skills in Python, Java, or Go
- Solid understanding of data structures, algorithms, system design, and distributed systems
- Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, or Azure)
- Familiarity with containerization and orchestration technologies such as Docker and Kubernetes
- Experience with CI-CD pipelines and automation tools including Jenkins, Terraform, or Ansible
- Working knowledge of observability and monitoring tools such as Prometheus, Grafana, or Splunk
- Strong troubleshooting, debugging, and problem-solving skills
- Experience working in Linux-Unix environments
- Strong written and verbal communication skills

Nice to Have (Not Required)
- Experience with middleware technologies such as Kafka, IBM MQ, DataPower, or Spring Boot
- Exposure to AI-ML concepts or modern AI development tools
- Experience with distributed, event-driven, or large-scale systems
- Familiarity with emerging engineering tools such as MCP, Cline, Aider, Cursor, or GitHub Copilot
- Open-source contributions, personal technical projects, or hackathon experience

Work Arrangement
Hybrid role based in Basingstoke. Employees typically work in the office 2–3 days per week, with flexibility based on team and business needs.
