Software Engineer | C#/.NET & SQL Server | Systematic Trading Firm
Salary: £120,000 - £180,000 base, flexible depending on experience
Location: City of London, on-site Monday to Friday
Hours: 8:00am to 6:00pm
Bonus: up to 100% of base, performance-based, with a strong track record of being paid out
I'm working with a quantitative hedge fund that's been running the same systematic futures trading programme for over two decades. You'll report into the Principal Engineer, with day-to-day work close to the Founder, building and operating the firm's internal portfolio, order and execution management systems, and looking after the trading databases behind them.
It's a small business with roughly half the team in engineering and technical roles, so you're in a tech-led environment where trading is fully programmatic and engineers work closely with the desk day to day. C# and SQL Server both sit at the centre of the role, and you'll move between the two depending on what the day needs.

Non-Negotiables
- C#/.NET: confident writing and testing production code
- SQL Server: strong working knowledge, comfortable debugging and tuning performance, no need to be an expert
- Financial services: previous commercial experience
- Academics: 2:1 or above in a technical discipline
- A-levels: A grade or above in relevant technical subjects
- Clear and concise communication

Engineering sits at the centre of this business, not off to the side supporting it. You'll take on ownership of the front office dashboard and its data model from day one, working directly with the Founder and turning ideas into working software close to real time.
The desk relies on the systems you'll maintain, so stability matters, but there's also a real appetite for refactoring and reducing technical debt rather than patching around it. You'll be one of a handful of engineers on the futures side, in a culture built around peer review and technical debate.
