Platform Engineer
We build the embodied intelligence that moves real vehicles safely, and the ecosystem a billion machines will run on in the future. Very few people in AI can say this. Every role here, whatever the team, plugs into that.
Here’s what this particular role covers.
🛠️ About our Portal Team
Portal is the platform that connects Wayve to the outside world — handling data exchange with partners, surfacing AI insights and enabling the commercial deployment of Wayve’s autonomy stack to OEM partners globally. The team operates as a startup within a scale-up, with its own infrastructure, its own DevOps and a high-autonomy operating model. As our Platform Engineer, you’ll own and evolve the cloud infrastructure and developer tooling that helps the Portal engineering team ship safely and quickly.
🧠 Your day-to-day
- Design, build and maintain cloud infrastructure, primarily on Azure, using Terraform to support development, staging and production environments.
- Own and evolve RBAC/IAM across cloud infrastructure and application layers for a multi-tenant Portal environment.
- Build and improve CI/CD pipelines and Kubernetes-based deployment workflows to increase developer velocity, reliability and deployment safety.
- Build internal tools and observability capabilities that help engineers deliver performant, reliable software at scale.
- Participate in a support/on-call rotation, responding to incidents and contributing to root cause analysis.
- Apply practical security and networking knowledge to harden the platform, and coach application developers on secure, scalable delivery.
🧩 What you’ll be working on
- A broad, hands-on platform engineering remit spanning Azure, Terraform, Kubernetes, IAM/RBAC, CI/CD, observability, security and networking — rather than a narrow specialisation.
- Infrastructure and deployment tooling that underpins the entire Portal engineering team and supports the commercial deployment of autonomous vehicle technology.
- RBAC/IAM and multi-tenancy challenges across infrastructure and product layers, building secure access controls and guardrails.
- Developer tooling that balances speed with security and quality, making it easier for application engineers to build and ship safely.
- Reliable, observable platform services that improve the developer experience and support production operations.
🙌 You should apply if
- You have strong hands-on cloud infrastructure experience, ideally with Azure, and production experience with Terraform and infrastructure as code.
- You bring deep RBAC/IAM knowledge at cloud infrastructure level; experience with application-level IAM and multi-tenant products is highly valuable.
- You’ve built and maintained CI/CD pipelines and can improve deployment reliability and safety.
- You have solid security and networking fundamentals and are a hands-on builder, not just a reviewer.
- You’ve worked in a support or on-call rotation and are comfortable responding to incidents and investigating their causes.
- You’re a strong communicator who enjoys collaborating with and coaching application developers.
- You take ownership of outcomes, work with a high degree of autonomy and bring a product mindset to the developer experience.
- Experience across multiple cloud providers, such as Azure, AWS or GCP, would be helpful, as would a background in developer experience, internal tooling or a startup or high-growth engineering environment. Security certifications are a plus, but aren’t required.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

More about Wayve
🚀 Wayve is building the leading AI platform for autonomous driving. We are pioneering an end to end AI approach that enables vehicles to learn directly from real world experience, developing the ability to adapt, generalise and improve at scale. Instead of relying on hand coded rules or pre mapped environments, our AI Driver learns to drive by understanding the world around it. The result is technology that navigates complex urban environments with intelligence, precision and natural flow, unlocking meaningful advances in both safety and efficiency.
We believe autonomy represents a once in a generation transformation in how people and goods move, comparable to the shift from horses to cars, and from human driven vehicles to intelligent machines.
Our ambition is to make autonomy universal. Wayve’s mapless and hardware agnostic AI platform integrates with global OEM partners, enabling continuous software evolution and unlocking advanced levels of automation from L2 plus through to L4 as our core AI model scales. In a race increasingly defined by intelligence and real world learning, Wayve is taking a distinct approach, building a generalisable driving intelligence that can power any vehicle, anywhere. By combining embodied AI with scalable deployment, we are creating technology that can be shaped to each OEM brand and driver experience, accelerating the transition to a safer, more intelligent future of mobility.
