We are a growing London-based FinTech startup.
Our product simplifies the painful business expenses process with a unique software platform and smart company payment card. We save companies time, hassle and money, which provides them with a new level of expense automation and efficient control over budgets and employee spending.
We are working in a huge sector mainly dominated by big businesses using outdated approaches. It is in massive need of change and we aim to revolutionise the space.

The Product Development team at Expend is an exciting, vibrant, high trust and welcoming team dedicated to producing high-quality features that drive a great customer experience, and using modern technology to deliver amazing products. We are continuously improving our products, tools and ways of working to build the very best experience for our customers.

- Individual ownership of tasks through business analysis, implementation, testing and support
We are a remote development team located in the UK
Our stack is a Python backend consisting of 30+ Python microservices hosted on AWS, using ECS, SQS/SNS, Lambdas, DynamoDB and RDS PostgreSQL. Pulumi is used for Infrastructure as Code. Our frontends consist of a Next.js web app and a React Native mobile application.

The Role
We’re looking for a motivated, curious and collaborative Senior Software Engineer to help us deliver an ambitious roadmap of new products and features with a strong focus on performance, reliability and customer experience.
You’ll work across our platform, from Python services and APIs through to our Next.js frontend, cloud infrastructure and third party integrations.
You’ll also have the opportunity to work on our growing applied AI initiatives, helping us explore and build production-ready AI capabilities using LLMs and other AI technologies.
We embrace Agile principles and value collaboration across the business. You’ll work closely with Engineers, Product, Marketing, Customer Success and Business Development in a welcoming and inclusive environment.
Requirements
The applicant must be based in the UK and able to work fully remotely.
The applicant must be able to demonstrate effective verbal and written English communication.
The applicant must have hands-on professional experience with most of the following:
- Writing clean, testable, maintainable, scalable and secure code while following best practices
- Building, maintaining and supporting distributed systems in production (event-driven, microservice, or serverless architectures)
- Lean or Agile approach to Software Development Life Cycle
- Test Driven Development (TDD), or at least writing automated tests
- Python web services and/or scripting
- Next.js, VueJS, Svelte or similar frontend libraries using TypeScript
- Database model design, query and usage (SQL and/or NoSQL)
- AWS or other Cloud hosting provider
- CI/CD pipelines and DevOps principles
- Modern AI agents/frameworks to accelerate software development
- Strong time management skills with the ability to prioritise own workload

If the applicant had experience with any of the below it would be beneficial:
- Building practical AI-powered features and integrating LLMs into real-world software products that solve real customer problems using LangChain, LangGraph or similar AI application frameworks
- Coaching or mentoring of team members on best practices
- Independently proposing improvements to processes, practices and technologies
- Pair Programming
- Integrating complex third-party API
- Infrastructure as Code (Terraform, Serverless Framework, Pulumi, etc)
- Experience in FinTech, payments, or working with financial APIs
