I'm working with a leading global proprietary trading firm that is seeking an experienced Software Engineer to join its Systematic Trading team in London.
Working directly alongside quantitative researchers and traders, you'll help design and develop the full technology stack underpinning the firm's global trading operation. This spans trading systems, market data connectivity, execution algorithms, research infrastructure, monitoring and observability, as well as integrations with the firm's wider technology platform.
The environment is predominantly Python and requires engineers who are comfortable building highly available, distributed systems with tight latency requirements. You'll be given significant autonomy and expected to take ownership of projects from high-level requirements through to production.
Responsibilities
- Design, develop and maintain mission-critical software supporting systematic research, trading and post-trade analysis.
- Build high-performance market data, signal/feature computation, portfolio optimisation and execution management systems.
- Develop highly available distributed trading infrastructure with stringent latency requirements.
- Work directly with quantitative researchers and traders to translate high-level requirements into robust technical solutions.
- Build and enhance monitoring and observability tooling across the trading platform.
- Own projects throughout the engineering lifecycle, including design, development, testing, documentation and production support.
- Collaborate closely with researchers, traders and other software engineers across a global team.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
