Senior Software Engineer - Rust & Python - any Ruby a bonus.

100% remote. £600-£650/day OUTSIDE IR35. 12 MONTH CONTRACT

We are seeking an experienced Software Engineer to help build and evolve backend services. You will also play a key role in modernising our engineering ecosystem by helping decommission legacy Rails components, migrating data models into modern services, and establishing new sources of truth across CLIENTS platform. KEY SKILLS ARE RUST, PYTHON & ANY RUBY & API's A BONUS!

This is a hands-on engineering role requiring deep expertise with Rust & Python and have experience to build high-performance, scalable backend systems. YOU MUST BE AN EXPERT IN RUST & PYTHON. Any API's (REST OR GRAPHGL) & Ruby On Rails a big bonus but not essential.

Key Deliverables

  • Build and enhance backend services that reduce operational costs through automation and process optimisation.
  • Develop scalable Rust & Python-based services and APIs that support candidate acquisition, onboarding, and compliance workflows.
  • Design, build, and maintain distributed systems using Python, with significant contributions in Java or Rust where appropriate.
  • Drive technical requirements and take ownership of complex engineering initiatives from design through delivery.
  • Lead the migration of legacy Ruby on Rails functionality into modern service-oriented architectures.
  • Design simple, maintainable, scalable systems following engineering best practices.
  • Produce clean, well-tested, maintainable code and participate in code reviews to maintain high engineering standards.
  • Develop and maintain RESTful APIs, GraphQL services, and integrations with third-party platforms.
  • Produce architecture documentation, API specifications, and deployment documentation.
  • Implement monitoring, logging, and observability to improve platform reliability and performance.
  • Collaborate closely with Product, Engineering, and cross-functional stakeholders to deliver high-quality solutions.

Essential Technical Skills

  • Strong commercial Rust or Python development experience, ideally using Django or FastAPI.
  • Demonstrated ability to work across multiple languages and quickly become productive in unfamiliar codebases.
  • Experience designing and building scalable backend services and distributed systems.
  • Strong experience designing and consuming RESTful APIs and GraphQL.
  • Experience with PostgreSQL, MySQL, Redis, and database optimisation.
  • Experience using AI-assisted development tools and coding agents to improve engineering productivity while maintaining code quality.
  • Experience designing and implementing Model Context Protocol (MCP) servers and integrations.
  • Experience decomposing monolithic applications into service-oriented or microservice architectures.
  • Experience with CI/CD pipelines, cloud infrastructure, and modern software engineering practices.
  • Strong understanding of testing, observability, performance optimisation, and production monitoring.
