We're looking for an experienced Senior Back End Search Engineer to join a growing digital engineering team, helping to build and evolve next-generation search capabilities that power large-scale digital platforms.
This is an exciting opportunity for someone who enjoys solving complex technical challenges, working with modern cloud technologies, and exploring the latest advancements in AI-powered search. Working on a greenfield concept, alongside internal teams and implementation partners.
We’re looking for a Senior Software Engineer that has worked on Search capabilities, utilising either AWS OpenSearch or ElasticSearch.
The Opportunity
You'll join a collaborative newly forming Agile development team where you'll play a key role in designing, developing and optimising enterprise search solutions. Working across traditional search, semantic search and Generative AI, you'll help create intelligent search experiences that deliver real business value.

You'll also work closely with software engineers, architects and product teams to integrate advanced search functionality into modern web applications built primarily with Ruby on Rails.
What You'll Be Doing
- Designing and optimising scalable AWS OpenSearch solutions
- Building semantic, vector and hybrid search capabilities
- Developing Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) pipelines using Large Language Models (LLMs)
- Integrating AWS Bedrock and Generative AI into enterprise search applications
- Developing production-grade backend applications using Ruby on Rails
- Improving search relevance, indexing strategies and overall performance
- Working with SQL and NoSQL databases
- Contributing to CI/CD pipelines and cloud infrastructure
- Participating in Agile ceremonies, code reviews and technical design discussions
- Keeping up to date with emerging AI and search technologies

What We're Looking For
Essential Skills
- 3+ years' commercial experience with AWS OpenSearch Service or Elasticsearch in production environments
- Strong experience building enterprise search platforms
- Hands-on experience with:
- Semantic Search
- Vector Search
- Hybrid Search
- Experience integrating AWS Bedrock or similar AI services
- Commercial Ruby on Rails OR.Net or Similar development experience
- Strong SQL knowledge (MySQL, SQL Server) and experience with NoSQL databases
- Git version control
