Senior Python Developer - Investment Bank
Location: Remote, with occasional travel to Canary Wharf
Contract: 12 months Inside IR35 OR Permanent
We are working with a leading technology consultancy to recruit an experienced Senior Python Developer for a major financial-services client.
The role will focus on developing Python-based applications, APIs, integrations, and automation solutions supporting an enterprise ServiceNow Change Management platform and its integrations with multiple internal applications.
This is primarily a back-end engineering role requiring strong Python development experience. Previous ServiceNow experience would be beneficial but is not essential, provided you have a strong background in enterprise integrations and are comfortable learning the platform.
Key responsibilities
- Design and develop Python applications, services, APIs, and automation tools
- Build and support integrations between ServiceNow and internal enterprise systems
- Develop scalable and maintainable solutions across distributed environments
- Automate operational processes and reduce manual effort
- Create unit tests, integration tests, and deployment pipelines
- Support CI/CD, deployment automation, and production environments
- Troubleshoot performance issues and resolve technical defects
- Contribute throughout the full software development lifecycle
- Provide technical leadership and mentor junior developers
- Work closely with architects, product owners, stakeholders, and engineering teams

Required experience
- At least five years’ commercial software engineering experience, with a strong focus on Python
- Strong back-end development and object-oriented programming skills
- Experience building RESTful APIs and enterprise system integrations
- Experience with Git, automated testing, CI/CD, and DevOps practices
- Comfortable working within Linux-based development environments
- Experience delivering secure, reliable, and maintainable software in large enterprise environments
- Strong stakeholder communication and client-facing skills
- Previous experience leading technical delivery or mentoring developers

Desirable experience
- ServiceNow integrations, workflows, or platform development
- ITSM processes, particularly Change Management
- Java development
- Financial services, banking, or another regulated environment
- Event-driven architecture and distributed systems
- ServiceNow, cloud, or Python certifications
- AI-assisted development tools and agentic engineering approaches
