Senior Software Engineer – TypeScript / AWS / Real-Time Systems

Location: Manchester / Hybrid
Salary: Up to £80,000

Have you built software where data doesn't just sit still – it's constantly arriving, changing and needing to be processed in real time?

This is an opportunity for a Senior Software Engineer to join a Manchester-based technology business currently re-platforming its core software.

You'll be joining while that re-platforming is underway, working across a modern TypeScript environment hosted entirely in AWS, with a combination of containerised and serverless services and real-time, event-driven architecture.

A major part of the engineering challenge involves working with time-series data, so experience building systems where data is continuously generated and processed will be particularly valuable. The specific industry isn't important. What's more important is that you've encountered the engineering challenges associated with real-time and time-series data and understand how to solve them in production.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

Only hits

No noise. No "maybe this fits." Just roles with a clear explanation of why they're right — and where to focus when applying.

What you'll be doing

  • Building and developing features across a modern TypeScript (Node and Next) platform.
  • Playing a key role in the ongoing re-platforming of the core technology.
  • Designing and developing real-time, event-driven systems.
  • Working extensively with time-series data.
  • Building within AWS using a combination of serverless and containerised services.
  • Solving complex engineering problems across the platform.
  • Contributing to technical decisions and the ongoing evolution of the architecture.
  • Taking ownership of your work and delivering solutions through to production.

About you

You'll be an experienced Software Engineer who can join an established engineering team and make an impact quickly.

You'll ideally bring strong experience across:

  • TypeScript and modern web technologies.
  • AWS and cloud-native development.
  • Event-driven architectures.
  • Real-time systems and time-series data.
  • Serverless and/or containerised services.
  • Designing, building and supporting production software.

You won't need to have worked within a particular industry, but you will need experience solving similar engineering problems. That could have come from telemetry, monitoring, observability, telematics, industrial systems, streaming platforms or another real-time data environment.

Just as importantly, you'll be able to understand problems quickly, communicate clearly and explain the reasoning behind your technical decisions.

This is a senior hire for a busy engineering team, so you'll be given the autonomy to take ownership rather than needing significant handholding.

With the core platform currently being re-engineered, you'll be joining at a point where there's an opportunity to influence what's being built rather than simply inherit a finished system.

If you've spent the last few years building real-time, data-intensive systems and want to apply that experience to a modern platform being re-engineered, this should be worth a conversation.
