Position Overview

Senior Software Engineers own the technical delivery of a small squad (typically 3–5 engineers) building software with Blazor, C# and RDT’s design system, and report to the Head of Software Engineering. A Senior Software Engineer role combines hands-on technical leadership with line management responsibility, and is a natural next step for engineers who want to grow into leading people as well as leading delivery.

You'll sit at the heart of delivering great web experiences for real insurance users - interacting directly with customers as you push the UI/UX forward. Yours is a dual-facing role: leading your squad’s day-to-day delivery and technical direction, while line-managing a small number of engineers within it. You will liaise with your immediate team, other Leads across the business and our customers and third parties. You will shape technical solutions, help analyse business requirements, produce technical designs, and support the people in your squad to grow their skills and careers.

Key Responsibilities

  • You will lead a small squad delivering web applications built with Blazor, C# and RDT’s design system, setting technical direction and owning code quality within the squad.
  • You will build enterprise, cloud-native applications in Azure, and be involved in the full software development lifecycle, from design through to deployment and support, alongside your squad.
  • You will line-manage a small number of engineers, including regular 1:1s, career development conversations and performance reviews.
  • You will work collaboratively with product owners, delivery managers and other squad / team leads to plan and prioritise your squad’s work, with transparency and clear visibility of progress and risk.
  • You will make good use of AI-assisted engineering tools to work faster and with better quality, applying sound judgement about where human review matters most, and help your squad do the same.

Essential

Technical Skills & Requirements

  • Solid, demonstrable knowledge of Blazor (Server and/or WebAssembly), with the ability to build and maintain applications that consume a shared design system or component library.
  • You are design-minded, with a good eye and taste for craft in web UI/UX, and enjoy working closely with design to get the details right.
  • You like to own a solution end-to-end - from initial design and technical approach through to production support - rather than handing off pieces of the problem.
  • You have a strong working knowledge of C# and .NET.
  • You have experience in highly available, multi-tier and enterprise application solutions, and can design and implement loosely coupled, cloud-native applications.
  • You have good experience developing RESTful and/or event-driven APIs using ASP.NET and understand the principles of good API design.
  • You understand the practice of test-driven development and the value of a strong automated testing pyramid - unit, integration and acceptance tests - and can hold your squad to that standard through code review.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
