Senior Software Engineer – Pricing & Availability

We’re supporting a high-traffic global travel and e-commerce platform in its search for a Senior Software Engineer to strengthen its pricing and availability systems.

This is a hands-on contract role focused on improving the performance, reliability and scalability of a complex transactional platform processing millions of customer searches across multiple international markets.

What you’ll be working on:

  • Building and improving pricing, quote-caching and availability services
  • Designing resilient APIs and integration patterns
  • Tackling latency, performance and infrastructure cost challenges
  • Managing the trade-off between pricing freshness and cache efficiency
  • Improving observability through monitoring, tracing and meaningful metrics
  • Working alongside teams responsible for third-party integrations and booking systems
  • Using AI coding tools as part of your day-to-day engineering workflow

What we’re looking for:

You’ll have strong experience building or maintaining pricing, inventory or availability systems within a high-traffic e-commerce, travel or marketplace environment.

You should also be comfortable discussing:

  • Cache invalidation and data freshness
  • API reliability, retries, timeouts, idempotency and backpressure
  • Performance optimisation, including p95 latency improvements
  • Distributed tracing, profiling and flame graphs
  • Production ownership, including testing, CI/CD, deployment and monitoring

Technical experience:

  • Strong TypeScript and Node.js skills
  • Experience working with C#/.NET or Python
  • Good SQL knowledge
  • Experience integrating unreliable or poorly documented third-party APIs
  • Daily use of coding agents or LLM-based development tools

Experience with cloud platforms, Terraform, edge technologies, Datadog, dynamic pricing or the travel sector would be advantageous.

This role would suit an experienced engineer who is comfortable owning complex problems from investigation through to production delivery.

Initial 6 months. Outside IR35 to 400 per day. Based Brighton or London or Fully Remote available.
