Senior Developer / AI Engineer – Edinburgh/Glasgow/Hybrid - £80k

Change Digital is delighted to be partnering with an organisation at the forefront of AI innovation, looking to appoint a talented Senior Developer / AI Engineer to join a growing team delivering impactful AI-powered solutions.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced software engineer who is passionate about Generative AI, modern cloud technologies and building scalable, production-grade applications. You'll play a key role in designing, developing and deploying AI-enabled products that solve real business challenges and drive measurable value.

The Opportunity

Working within a highly collaborative and technically strong team, you'll contribute across the full software development lifecycle, from shaping concepts through to secure production deployment. This role offers the chance to work with cutting-edge AI technologies, modern DevOps practices and Microsoft's Azure AI ecosystem.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, develop and maintain scalable AI-enabled applications and services.
  • Build and enhance GenAI and LLM-powered solutions, including copilots, assistants and intelligent automation tools.
  • Implement Retrieval Augmented Generation (RAG) architectures, including embeddings, vector databases and semantic search capabilities.
  • Develop robust APIs, microservices and cloud-native applications using.NET and Azure.
  • Apply prompt engineering, monitoring, evaluation and governance practices to ensure responsible AI adoption.
  • Lead technical improvements around performance, scalability, security and maintainability.
  • Collaborate closely with stakeholders, developers and product teams to deliver innovative solutions.
  • Mentor junior engineers and contribute to a culture of engineering excellence.

Skills & Experience Required

  • Proven experience as a Senior Developer, Software Engineer or AI Engineer.
  • Strong experience with Microsoft Azure, including AI and cloud-native services.
  • Commercial experience building GenAI / LLM-based applications.
  • Knowledge of RAG frameworks, vector search and embedding models.
  • Strong.NET development experience.
  • Experience designing and consuming APIs and microservices.
  • Strong understanding of DevOps principles, CI/CD and modern software engineering practices.
  • Experience working across the full software development lifecycle.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • Passion for innovation, problem solving and continuous improvement.
