Senior Software Engineering Manager | East Midlands | £90,000 + Bonus. 3 days a week in the office

Are you a technical leader who still enjoys being at the coalface, even after moving into management? Do you thrive in a reactive environment where priorities shift, rather than one that runs strictly to plan? Can you get the best out of a team while still being hands-on enough to write C# yourself when it's needed?

This role is exclusive to Ascent People.

I'm working with a software business, head office in the East Midlands area, with multiple sites across the UK, that's splitting their CTO role in two. The CTO is stepping back into strategy. This new role picks up everything else: the day-to-day running of a growing engineering function, with a clear path to taking on operations too.

Role Overview

You'll have four direct reports and an overall team of around 20. You'll work closely with a strong senior developer who leans into design decisions, and you'll have real influence over architecture and direction. This is a business that trusts you to get it done.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
