Kaluza is the Energy Intelligence Platform, turning energy complexity into seamless coordination. We help energy companies overcome today’s challenges while accelerating the shift to a clean, electrified future.

Our platform orchestrates millions of real-time decisions across homes, devices, markets and grids. By combining predictive algorithms with human-centred design, Kaluza makes clean energy dependable, affordable and adaptive to everyday life.

With teams across Europe, North America, Asia and Australia, and a joint venture with Mitsubishi Corporation in Japan, we power leading companies including OVO, AGL and ENGIE, as well as innovators like Volvo and Volkswagen.

What will I be doing?

Kaluza runs the billing and payments engine behind some of the world's biggest energy retailers. Every bill sent and every payment collected across Kaluza's markets increasingly runs through one shared core platform, and GBPA exists to build and run that core, so foundational billing and payments capability gets built once and reused everywhere, rather than rebuilt separately for every new market or client relationship.

That matters because of where Kaluza is headed: as we grow into new markets and take on more of the world's largest energy retailers as clients, rebuilding core billing and payments capability separately for each one is slower, costlier, and more error-prone than building it once and configuring it at the edge. Getting this right directly shapes how fast Kaluza can bring new markets and clients onto the platform, and how reliable that platform is once they're on it.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

Only hits

No noise. No "maybe this fits." Just roles with a clear explanation of why they're right — and where to focus when applying.

We're also in the middle of reorganising how this part of the business works, moving from building billing and payments capability separately per area toward one shared global core that every area configures rather than rebuilds. Senior Engineering Managers across GBPA sit at the centre of that shift, each owning two domains rather than a single team. Responsibilities include:

  • Lead engineering across two GBPA domains through complex, ambiguous, cross-squad initiatives.
  • Own technical and product strategy across both domains simultaneously, rather than handing strategy off to a single team.
  • Diagnose systemic and organisational issues using deep domain knowledge, not just resolve team-level technical problems.
  • Manage cross-functional stakeholders across Product, Delivery, and adjacent engineering teams to align roadmap and trade-offs.
  • Carry full people-leader ownership for both teams: goal-setting, performance and pay conversations, hiring and recruitment.
  • Operate in a high-integrity data domain (billing and payments) where reliability and reconciliation come before speed.

About You

Ideally, you’ll have/be:

  • Proven track record leading engineering team(s) through complex, ambiguous, cross-squad initiatives — not single-team delivery.
  • Experience owning technical and product strategy across multiple domains or services simultaneously.
  • Track record of diagnosing systemic or organisational issues and resolving them with deep domain knowledge, not just fixing team-level technical problems.
  • Strong cross-functional stakeholder manager, working with Product, Delivery, and adjacent engineering teams to align roadmap and trade-offs.
  • Full people-leader experience: goal-setting, performance and pay conversations, hiring and recruitment for the team(s) you lead.
  • Comfortable operating in a high-integrity data domain (billing or payments), where quality and reconciliation matter as much as delivery speed.
  • Demonstrable record of applying AI/LLMs to deliver customer impact, not just adopting AI tooling internally.
  • Customer obsession and a working-backwards practice: start from the customer problem and ship the simplest solution that solves it, rather than the most sophisticated one available.
  • Track record of successfully navigating complex stakeholder and leadership dynamics, influencing the wider organisation beyond your direct scope to improve product quality and team experience.

What will set you apart

  • Direct experience in billing, payments, or API platform domains.
  • Experience operating a "global core, configurable edge" or multi-market platform model (one engine, configuration at the edge, no client-specific forks of core logic).
  • Experience mentoring senior engineers toward people-leadership roles.
