Overview

Expleo is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to support the development, sustainment, integration and deployment of advanced test & simulation systems operating within secure and regulated environments. The role covers the full software development lifecycle, including defect investigation, software design and modification, integration, verification, regression testing, release preparation and deployment support. The successful candidate will work with existing, long-life software baselines and contribute to the delivery of approved changes, defect resolutions and system enhancements. Working as part of a multidisciplinary engineering team, the Senior Software Engineer will provide technical leadership for complex software investigations, support engineering reviews and help ensure that software outputs are technically complete, traceable and appropriately controlled. The position provides the opportunity to work on complex, mission-critical systems that support operational training and simulation capabilities. The role is primarily site-based within a secure engineering environment and may involve occasional travel to authorised locations for integration, testing and deployment activities.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, modify and maintain software applications supporting test & simulation systems.
  • Lead or undertake software defect investigation, root-cause analysis and fault resolution.
  • Analyse change requirements and produce engineering assessments, effort estimates and technical recommendations.
  • Design and implement approved software changes and system enhancements.
  • Undertake code reviews and provide constructive technical challenge.
  • Support software integration across hardware interfaces, networks, operating systems and external systems.
  • Plan and undertake unit, integration, regression and defect-verification testing.
  • Generate objective test evidence and produce clear, auditable test reports.
  • Maintain traceability between defects, approved changes, source-code updates, test evidence and release artefacts.
  • Apply configuration-management and version-control processes to software and supporting documentation.
  • Generate controlled software builds and prepare release candidates.
  • Produce and maintain technical documentation, including design information, configuration records, test evidence and release documentation.
  • Support release reviews, deployment preparation and authorised deployment activities.
  • Investigate and resolve complex issues affecting operational or representative test environments.
  • Participate in sprint planning, technical reviews, peer reviews, retrospectives and backlog-refinement activities.
  • Provide accurate progress reporting, including deliverable status, risks, issues, dependencies and planned activities.
  • Identify and escalate technical risks and issues through the appropriate engineering routes.
  • Support transition and knowledge-transfer activities where required.
  • Work collaboratively with software, systems, integration, test, assurance and support teams.
  • Comply with applicable quality, safety, security, software-development and engineering-governance requirements.

Qualifications

  • Degree, HNC, HND or equivalent qualification in Software Engineering, Computer Science, Electronic Engineering, Systems Engineering or a related STEM discipline.
  • Equivalent practical software-engineering experience will also be considered where supported by relevant technical expertise and evidence of delivery.
  • Evidence of continued professional development in software engineering, systems integration, verification, configuration management or a related discipline is desirable.
  • Professional registration or progress towards professional registration is desirable but not essential.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
