Senior Solicitor, £64,513pa, Permanent, 35 hours per week
It is an exciting time to join the Law Society of Scotland. We have an opportunity within the Regulation Team for a Regulation Senior Solicitor. This role will provide expert legal and regulatory advice to the Society on its statutory framework and regulatory regimes, lead the development and implementation of regulatory frameworks for authorised legal businesses and licensed legal services providers, and act as Secretary to the Appeals and Reviews Sub-committee. The role also plays a wider part in supporting the Society to operate effectively as a modern, proportionate and trusted regulator.

Key Responsibilities for this role
- Provide authoritative legal and regulatory advice on the Society’s statutory framework and regulatory regimes, including the Regulation of Legal Services (Scotland) Act 2025, Legal Services (Scotland) Act 2010 and Solicitors (Scotland) Act 1980.
- Lead the development and maintenance of Practice Rules, ALB Rules, guidance, policies, procedures and governance structures that are clear, proportionate and workable in practice.
- Support effective governance and decision making by preparing high-quality papers, legal analysis and advice for the Regulatory Committee, sub-committees and Council.
- Act as Secretary to the Appeals and Reviews Sub-committee, including agenda planning, paper preparation, minute taking, decision records and legal and procedural advice.
- Line manage two Regulation Solicitors and work closely with colleagues across the Regulation Directorate and with internal and external stakeholders.

Key Knowledge, Skills and Experience:
- Qualified solicitor with an unrestricted practising certificate in a UK jurisdiction and a minimum of five years’ post-qualifying legal experience in regulatory, public law, professional discipline or complaints work.
- Strong experience interpreting and applying complex legislation, with the ability to translate legal and regulatory requirements into clear, plain-language advice, guidance and documentation.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to produce concise, authoritative documents and present recommendations to a range of audiences.
- Proven ability to manage team performance, priorities and projects, with sound judgement, resilience and the ability to work effectively under pressure.
- Strong stakeholder management and relationship-building skills, with the ability to work collaboratively across teams and engage effectively with external stakeholders.
