Organisation: LF Legal Ltd

Location and working pattern: Hybrid/remote working, with agreed in-person attendance where reasonably required

Engagement options:

  • (A) flexible part-time involvement of up to two 7.5-hour days per week
  • (B) full-time involvement, including agreed fee-earning duties

Status and remuneration: To be agreed in the relevant engagement documentation. This description is not an offer of employment, a regulatory appointment, or a variation of an existing consultancy agreement.

Purpose of the role

LF Legal Ltd seeks an experienced solicitor to provide effective, hands-on supervision of legal work conducted day to day by its case handlers, including experienced paralegals; to assess new instructions and the firm’s supervisory capacity; and to support the firm’s compliance, governance, and operational improvement. The role requires practical professional judgment, accessible support for case handlers, clear records of actual supervision, and prompt escalation of risks. The successful candidate will not be expected to take personal conduct of every file but must genuinely supervise each matter or defined category for which they accept responsibility.

A director appointment and designation as COLP/Head of Legal Practice may be contemplated, subject to separate agreement and completion of all required corporate and regulatory steps. Neither title arises simply from starting this role, and acceptance of file supervision must be separately recorded. The role may also include COFA/HOFA and banking-signatory responsibilities, but only under a separate written agreement specifying their scope, authority, and remuneration, and subject to any required eligibility checks, approvals, notifications, and bank mandates. Neither responsibility arises automatically from this role description. MLRO and MLCO responsibilities are likewise outside the role unless separately agreed and any applicable requirements are met.

Core responsibilities — both engagement options

File and team supervision:

  • Assess the practice areas, individual matters, and defined categories the solicitor can competently and effectively supervise
  • Formally accept an appropriate allocation
  • Establish review frequency, authority for decisions and sign-offs, and a practical escalation route
  • Review material work, deadlines, client communications, and higher-risk steps
  • Provide reasoned direction and feedback to case handlers and check that instructions have been followed

New work and capacity:

  • Assess proposed instructions for competence, conflicts, available resources, urgency, and supervision capacity before accepting responsibility
  • Identify where work should be declined, paused, transferred, or supported by additional expertise rather than treated as covered without effective oversight

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

Only hits

No noise. No "maybe this fits." Just roles with a clear explanation of why they're right — and where to focus when applying.

Live records:

  • Maintain a working supervision register identifying accepted matters or categories, case handlers, limits of acceptance, urgent arrangements, and material changes
  • Record file reviews, key decisions, advice, escalations, and time worked in firm-controlled systems
  • An appointment or commencement date alone does not mean every file has been accepted for supervision

Urgent protection and absence planning:

  • Agree accessible contact and response arrangements
  • Prioritize imminent deadlines and material client risks
  • Arrange cover or other protective steps for absences
  • Do not assume an unnamed alternative supervisor or treat a paralegal as a substitute for an appropriately qualified supervisor

Compliance and improvement:

  • Undertake an initial assessment of supervision, client-money controls, complaints handling, staffing, regulatory issues, and operational risks
  • Produce a prioritised written findings and remediation plan
  • Assist with implementation and review the effectiveness of corrective measures
  • Identify where external specialist support is needed

Governance and reporting:

  • Give directors timely, accurate advice on material risks and provide the information needed for sound decisions
  • Exercise independent professional judgment over any reporting obligations
  • Do not certify completion of steps without evidence or allow commercial pressures to compromise client protection

Working with the team:

  • Coach and support experienced case handlers
  • Agree proportionate controls for different work types and develop workable processes that preserve efficiency without diluting accountability for supervision

The firm will provide reasonable access to relevant staff, files, systems, and information. The solicitor is expected to identify any limits to competence or capacity promptly and to agree safe alternatives with the firm where necessary.

Option A — flexible part-time involvement

The initial capacity would be up to two working days per week, each of 7.5 hours, with particular days and times agreed as practicable for each relevant period. This option is intended to cover the core supervision, compliance, governance support, and urgent protective work described above. Availability should be planned around the accepted caseload, not presented as a substitute for supervision actually performed. The solicitor should submit appropriately detailed weekly activity records and timesheets. Under the current negotiating approach, fees would be payable only for hours actually worked and properly documented, with part days charged proportionately; the applicable rate, invoicing terms, and any continuation would be set out in the agreement.

The firm and solicitor must assess whether this capacity is sufficient for the actual work accepted. Where it is not, they should adjust the allocation, working pattern, or resources before relying on the arrangement to supervise additional work. Urgent core protective work should be prioritized or accommodated through a practical schedule adjustment rather than treated as an automatically separate fee-earning assignment.

Option B — full-time involvement with fee-earning duties

A full-time arrangement would combine the same core supervisory and compliance responsibilities with an agreed allocation of personally conducted, fee-earning client work. The solicitor would take responsibility for suitable client matters within their expertise; advise and communicate with clients; manage strategy, drafting, negotiations, or proceedings as applicable to the agreed practice area; supervise delegated work; and comply with the firm’s conflict, engagement, file management, billing, and client-care procedures. The allocation of fee-earning work must leave sufficient protected time for effective supervision, compliance, and any effective director or COLP responsibilities.

Before offering or adopting this option, the parties should agree the working week and expected presence, areas of personal conduct, caseload and supervision limits, reporting lines, support staff, billable-work expectations (if any), remuneration and billing arrangements, insurance, and conflicts, and how urgent core responsibilities take priority. No full-time fee, salary, target, or additional fee-earning rate is specified here or implied by the part-time day rates. Any director or COLP appointment requires separate steps and must not be treated as automatically effective because the solicitor works full time.

Experience and attributes sought

  • Current entitlement to practise as a solicitor in England and Wales, with experience and expertise appropriate to the work actually accepted for supervision
  • Demonstrable experience supervising legal staff and reviewing live matters in a risk-based, documented manner
  • Sound judgment on client protection, professional independence, conflicts, escalation, and the limits of personal competence and capacity
  • Practical understanding of law-firm compliance, complaints, client-money controls, and operational remediation; experience of governance or a compliance-officer role is desirable if that appointment is pursued
  • Ability to work constructively with experienced paralegals while retaining personal responsibility for the supervisory decisions they cannot make on the solicitor’s behalf
  • For the full-time option, relevant expertise and client-facing experience to conduct and develop work in the mutually agreed practice areas
