Coalition Accelerator Builder

The Coalition Accelerator Builder team is the conversion layer between qualified defence-cloud demand and reusable, deliverable capability. The NSD mission threads and field identify customer challenges and generate demand; this team turns that demand into proven accelerators that ProServe, partners, and regional teams can deliver repeatedly without a specialist in the room.

The accelerator portfolio includes C2CMA (Command and Control Cloud Mission Accelerator), Trusted Secure Enclaves, and CEGA (Cloud Edge Global Access), linked together by the AMF (AWS Mission Framework) to deliver holistically for the mission rather than as isolated point solutions.

You will be one of the first builder hires into this team. Your job is to build, prove, and scale the accelerator portfolio: helping build best-practice guidance and reference architectures, hands-on in the codebase, embedded in live customer delivery, and then codifying what works into repeatable approaches that the wider field can own.

How You Work: The Prove-Then-Scale Model

Your initial validation is direct involvement in customer delivery. You embed alongside ProServe and partner engineers on live engagements, contribute code, solve real deployment problems, and understand what breaks in production defence environments. You then extract that experience into repeatable, tested patterns: infrastructure-as-code, CI/CD pipelines, demo platforms, contribution guides, and enablement collateral. The credibility of everything you produce comes from having built it against real operational need, not in a lab.

What This Role Is NOT

This is not a traditional customer-facing SA role with occasional prototyping. It is a build role. You will write code, own pipelines, and maintain a codebase. Customer exposure comes through embedded delivery, not through pre-sales presentations. If your instinct is to architect on a whiteboard and hand off to someone else to implement, this is not the right fit.

Key Job Responsibilities

  • Build and own the accelerator codebases. Terraform, CI/CD, container orchestration and infrastructure-as-code for the shared core every deployment depends on. Set contribution standards for ProServe and partners, review pull requests and enforce Architecture Decision Records so country-specific extensions stay consistent with the core.
  • Prove the patterns in live delivery. Work alongside ProServe and partner teams on funded engagements to validate patterns, fix what breaks and build credibility before scaling.
  • Run demo and reference platforms. Keep environments running that support sales conversations, give partners a validated starting point and show secure-by-design patterns to customers and accreditation bodies.
  • Automate compliance evidence. Build tooling that maps deployed infrastructure to NATO, NCSC and national control frameworks and produces evidence that can be audited.
  • Enable the field. Write technical collateral, not marketing material: deployment guides, runbooks, architecture walkthroughs, accreditation evidence templates and hands-on workshops that let non-specialist SAs, Tech BDs and delivery teams work on their own.
  • Deliver the roadmap across the collaboration model. Work to the priorities set by the Product Owner and STL and turn demand from the field into shipped capability. Act as the bridge between the team that sets direction and ProServe, partners, regional SAs, Tech BDs and AWS Security.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

About the Team

The Coalition Accelerator Builder Team sits within GNSD and governs the accelerator portfolio that underpins the AWS defence-cloud go-to-market across allied nations. The team is deliberately small and high-leverage: it builds each capability once, to a standard that holds, and it becomes a repeatable delivery vehicle. You will work directly with the STL, Product Owner, and fellow engineers, and interface daily with BD, ProServe, and partner teams across multiple countries. Each accelerator compounds: what one nation builds, the next fields rather than rebuilds.

Basic Qualifications

  • 3+ years of design, implementation, or consulting in applications and infrastructures experience
  • 10+ years of IT development or implementation/consulting in the software or Internet industries experience
  • Strong software engineering fundamentals, including version control workflows, automated testing, code review, CI/CD pipelines and containerisation (Docker, ECS/EKS)

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in defence, national security or government cloud environments, including multi-classification architectures, secure-by-design patterns and strict data separation, ideally with an active or recently held security clearance in a NATO nation (UK SC/DV, US Secret/TS or equivalent).
  • Deep DevOps experience, including CI/CD pipeline design, GitOps, automated testing, release management and observability at scale, applied in regulated environments with audit trails and automated compliance evidence or security posture validation, ideally using generative AI or RAG for evidence extraction.
  • Deep knowledge of AWS security services (GuardDuty, Security Hub, IAM Access Analyzer, KMS, Nitro Enclaves, CloudTrail), container orchestration (EKS/ECS/Kubernetes) and event-driven serverless architectures (Lambda, Step Functions, EventBridge) across cloud and edge.
  • Experience with mission systems (TAK Server/ATAK, geospatial pipelines, C2) or mesh, SD-WAN and overlay networks for contested environments, deployed in field exercises or austere conditions, and a track record of building enablement (documentation, workshops, partner certification) for partner delivery teams in more than one country.
