Solutions Engineering at Shopify

Shopify’s Solutions Engineering (SE) team plays a critical role as our secret weapon in empathizing with our customers, driving business forward and acting as an internal product ambassador to make commerce better for everyone. The SE team includes Solutions Engineers, Solution Architects, Demo Engineering and Retail specialists – all working together to push our organization forward. This is a groundbreaking team you want to join!

About The Role

In the role of an Acceleration B2B SE, you’ll drive technical solutions, help shape the commerce strategy for existing Shopify ecommerce merchants in adopting Shopify B2B, and bring that unique perspective back to our product team. You’ll work on high value, strategic, and technically complex projects to ensure that any solutions meet the needs of our merchants. You'll be the technical expert - and our SEs are technical!

What do we mean by technical?

Our SEs are not just technically adept; they use their technical toolkit to build proof of concepts, design enterprise architecture, and consult our prospects on leveraging the cutting edge technology that Shopify employs. This role demands technical expertise alongside the capability to communicate intricate ideas across diverse teams, fostering rapid alignment and impactful realizations. For a deeper understanding of the technical depth and strategic role you'll play, consider exploring resources like Shopify's Hydrogen and Oxygen framework, our composable offering, as well as our Developer Documentation to understand where the platform extensibility points live. We're eager to see how your expertise aligns with our dynamic team!

Qualifications:

  • A solutions mindset - our largest and most advanced B2B customers will often need to build custom build solutions to achieve their goals.
  • Passion to collaborate in a team-selling environment and share your expertise to help others learn.
  • Executive experience presenting to technical c-suite decision makers.
  • Strong troubleshooting and analytical skills combined with the desire to tackle challenges head-on.
  • Technical architecture, integration, and security expertise.
  • Strong API knowledge (REST and GraphQL) for enterprise integrations.
  • Solid understanding of technical strategy as it relates to operating and growing commerce businesses.
  • A personable video conference presence with confidence and the ability to control the virtual room.
  • Strong time management and prioritization skills to support a number of opportunities, multiple concurrent client requests, and the ability to reprioritise on an ongoing basis.
  • The ability to thrive on change, work well as part of a team and as an individual contributor, as well as the flexibility to work locally, regionally and globally in a matrixed organization. We evolve at a rapid pace and things change quickly, sometimes even daily!

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

About Shopify

Opportunity is not evenly distributed. Shopify puts independence within reach for anyone with a dream to start a business. We propel entrepreneurs and enterprises to scale the heights of their potential. Since 2006, we’ve grown to over 8,300 employees and generated over $1 trillion in sales for millions of merchants in 175 countries.

This is life-defining work that directly impacts people’s lives as much as it transforms your own. This is putting the power of the few in the hands of the many, is a future with more voices rather than fewer, and is creating more choices instead of an elite option.

About You

Moving at our pace brings a lot of change, complexity, and ambiguity—and a little bit of chaos. Shopifolk thrive on that and are comfortable being uncomfortable. That means Shopify is not the right place for everyone.

Before you apply, consider if you can:

  • Care deeply about what you do and about making commerce better for everyone
  • Excel by seeking professional and personal hypergrowth
  • Keep up with an unrelenting pace (the week, not the quarter)
  • Be resilient and resourceful in face of ambiguity and thrive on (rather than endure) change
  • Bring critical thought and opinion
  • Put AI agents and tools to work on the tasks they're built for, and focus on the work only humans can do
  • Embrace differences and disagreement to get shit done and move forward
  • Work digital-first for your daily work

We may use AI-enabled tools to screen, select, and assess applications. All AI outputs are reviewed and validated by our recruitment team.
