Based near Appleby-in-Westmorland, Cumbria, this small, family-run hotel is looking for an enthusiastic Sous Chef to join their team.

Set in a beautifully secluded countryside location, the business offers high-quality accommodation and dining, with a strong focus on delivering memorable guest experiences. As the business continues to grow, this is an excellent opportunity for a talented and passionate Sous Chef to support the Head Chef and play a key role in the kitchen’s success.

The Role

This is a great opportunity for a driven Sous Chef to support the day-to-day running of the kitchen within a highly regarded hospitality business.

The successful candidate will assist in delivering high-quality, beautifully presented food while helping to oversee kitchen operations, menu development, and team support.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support the Head Chef in managing all kitchen operations
  • Assist in creating seasonal menus
  • Ensure high standards of food quality, presentation, and consistency
  • Help manage ordering, stock control, and supplier relationships
  • Support control of food costs and kitchen budgets
  • Ensure compliance with food safety and hygiene standards
  • Supervise and support junior kitchen team members
  • Work closely with front-of-house teams to ensure smooth service

Candidate Profile

  • Proven experience as a Sous Chef or strong Junior Sous Chef ready to step up
  • Experience in high-volume service preferred
  • Strong organisational and communication skills
  • Calm and professional under pressure
  • Good attention to detail and a passion for quality food
  • Interested in seasonal, locally sourced ingredients
  • Flexible with weekend working
