Senior Specialist Biomedical Scientist in the Blood Transfusion Laboratory
About the Role
An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic, experienced, and capable Senior Specialist Biomedical Scientist in the Blood Transfusion Laboratory at the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital. This post is based at The Royal Shrewsbury Hospital, although the postholder may be required to work across sites.
Key Responsibilities
- Management and deployment of staff within the Haematology and Blood Transfusion laboratories.
- Leading the Blood Transfusion sections and ensuring all aspects of the technical performance, training, and quality of those areas are of the highest standard.
- Assisting the Lead Scientist and other senior grade staff in the management of the department’s sections.
- Managing and deploying staff within a section(s) of work assigned.
- Familiarity with the local application of all relevant Trust policies and ensuring adherence by yourself and the staff in your section.
- Providing cover for other senior specialists within your department.
- Performing a range of senior specialist activities and providing highly specialist advice to clinicians and other service users.
- Delivering training to Specialist Diploma level within your area of expertise.
- Leading a specialist section of the department and ensuring all aspects of the technical performance of that area are of the highest standard.
- Undertaking equipment evaluation and activities which underpin the appropriate selection of methodologies and/or adaptation of procedures used in the department.
- Driving service improvements and innovation within your specialist section of the department.

About the Department
The Haematology and Blood Transfusion Laboratory comprises a friendly team of staff providing a high-quality, 24/7 service for patients. The department uses the Sysmex XN Haematology analysers, the CN Coagulation analysers, and the Grifols blood grouping system in Transfusion.
About the Hospital
The Royal Shrewsbury Hospital is set within the beautiful town of Shrewsbury close to the Welsh border and surrounded by stunning countryside. Shrewsbury has access to great transport links for travel by road and rail across Shropshire and beyond.
