A leading international auction house is seeking an experienced Senior Specialist – Comics & Collectibles to join its London team.
This is an excellent opportunity for an established comics specialist to take a key role within a growing specialist department, working with collectors, dealers and consignors to identify, value and bring exceptional material to auction.
Combining specialist comics knowledge with commercial and client-development expertise, you will be responsible for appraising property, securing consignments, developing client relationships and contributing to the successful delivery and growth of specialist auctions.
The successful candidate will have an excellent understanding of the comics market, strong valuation and research skills and the commercial confidence to develop new business and build lasting relationships with collectors and dealers.
Key Responsibilities
- Evaluate and appraise comics, providing accurate and commercially appropriate auction estimates.
- Identify and secure quality consignments through existing company relationships and independently generated leads.
- Develop new business and build long-term relationships with collectors, dealers and prospective consignors.
- Research and authenticate property, establishing provenance and relevant market information.
- Produce accurate and engaging catalogue descriptions.
- Review and proof catalogue content, photography, press releases, client communications and advertising material.
- Proactively market important lots and collections to existing and prospective buyers.
- Generate, develop and respond to client and consignment leads.
- Contribute to the continued expansion and development of the specialist client database.
- Advise collectors and clients throughout the valuation, consignment and auction process.
- Respond professionally to enquiries before, during and following auctions.
- Travel as required to meet collectors and clients and assess potential consignments.
- Participate actively in auctions and support the successful delivery of sales.
- Monitor market trends, auction results and developments within the international comics and collectibles market.
- Work collaboratively with colleagues across specialist, marketing, operations and client-service teams.

- 4 years + professional experience within the comics and collectibles market, gained within an auction house, established dealership or comparable specialist environment.
- Extensive knowledge of comics, their history, grading, values and collector market.
- Experience appraising, buying, selling or consigning collectible comics.
- Strong research and authentication skills.
- A good understanding of current market values and collector trends.
- Existing relationships within the comics collecting or dealer community.
- Strong commercial instincts with the ability to identify and develop consignment opportunities.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- The ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously.
- A professional and highly client-focused approach.
