Senior Specialist Communications - GAMS and Global Partnerships

Role Overview

As a Senior Specialist supporting Mastercard’s core payments business, you will help shape and amplify the stories behind the products, innovations and partnerships that consumers and businesses interact with every day. You’ll partner closely with internal teams to drive integrated content and media strategies, craft compelling narratives, and support thoughtful planning and measurement across our broader storytelling efforts.

Key Responsibilities

Media Relations

  • Develop and manage press lists, briefing books, recaps, messaging documents, and other assets to support announcements, digital content, and media relations.
  • Build and strengthen relationships with agencies and journalists across payments, finance, technology and consumer lifestyle media.

Storytelling & Content Creation

  • Contribute to engaging newsroom and digital content, story angles, and thought leadership. Align content with Mastercard’s business objectives, market trends, and stakeholder interests.
  • Collaborate with Mastercard’s partners and customers on content such as speaking opportunities, videos, webinars, podcasts, blogs, and social campaigns.
  • Create timely and compelling social media content for Mastercard’s and our executives’ social channels.

Collaboration Across Teams

  • Partner with internal stakeholders (product teams, relationship managers, communications & marketing colleagues) to align messaging and ensure consistency across all external communications.
  • Coordinate appropriate approvals from product, account management, and regional teams, as well as legal, and Investor Relations.

Stakeholder Management

  • Build excellent working relationships with global stakeholders both internal and external to our organization.

Communications Program Management & Measurement

  • Manage a calendar of product and partnership milestones, announcements, speaking opportunities, events and key moments.
  • Track performance (coverage quality, message pull through, share of voice, sentiment); produce regular reporting and insights. Support team processes, including intake structures, approvals, and coordination across functions to ensure smooth execution.

Key Skills & Qualifications

Experience

  • Experience in media relations, public relations, or corporate communications, with a proven track record of executing timely holistic communications programs with high levels of professionalism. Agency experience preferred.

Storytelling

  • Strong storytelling abilities, with experience in connecting the dots to deliver high-quality, impactful content for diverse audiences across different platforms (press releases, articles, blogs, speaking ops, social media, etc.). Curiosity about consumer behavior, payments innovation, and emerging trends to proactively identify storytelling opportunities.

Communication Skills

  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills. Ability to convey complex ideas clearly and effectively in simple language with limited jargon. Ability to engage with global / remote stakeholders and teams.

Media Relationships

  • Skilled in building new relationships with key agencies, journalists, bloggers, and influencers in the media landscape, particularly within personal finance and consumer-facing media.

  • Ability to think strategically and critically to connect the dots to broader organizational goals and priorities. Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills, with the ability to manage sensitive issues and respond quickly to fast-changing situations.

  • Collaborative and team-oriented with the ability to work cross-functionally across global teams and stakeholders, and to prioritize what matters in service of moving quickly without diminishing quality of work. Highly organized, with the ability to plan and think proactively as well as manage processes.

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, Marketing, English, or a related field.

Additional Requirements

  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
  • Strong attention to detail and a commitment to producing high-quality work.
  • An interest in or knowledge of consumer payments trends and overall commerce.
  • A proactive, creative, and solution-oriented mindset.
