Senior Specialist - Fuel Pumps & Metering Units

Full Time – Hybrid

Location: Solihull

Key Accountabilities

  • Strategy: Actively participate in the development of the Fuel Controls Units and fuel system strategy, ensuring alignment of fuel pump and fuel metering unit technologies with future engine, customer, and business requirements. Recognised as a technical authority influencing senior engineering, programme, and business leaders.
  • Capability Development: Lead the development of specialist capabilities in the design, integration, validation, and in-service support of mechanical and electro-mechanical fuel pumps and metering units. Drives implementation of innovative technologies, tools, methodologies, and engineering practices.
  • System Integration: Provides leadership in the integration of fuel pump and metering units within the overall fuel system architecture, ensuring compatibility with the overarching control system.
  • Collaboration: Proactively develops and participates in internal and external specialist networks across engineering, manufacturing, supply chain, customers, academia, and industry partners. Represents Rolls-Royce in collaborative technology and research activities relating to fuel control units.
  • Leadership: Provides technical direction and coaching to engineers and specialists across control systems and wider engineering functions. Leads technical reviews, design governance activities, and specialist working groups.
  • Standards Definition: Contributes to the development of internal standards, engineering practices, and external industry guidance related to fuel control units, product integrity, safety, and certification.
  • Product Integrity & Airworthiness: Provides specialist guidance to ensure designs comply with safety, reliability, and certification requirements throughout product development and in-service operation.

Key Experiences and Qualifications

  • Deep technical knowledge of positive displacement and centrifugal pumping technologies, fuel pumps (mechanical and electro-mechanical), fuel metering units, and their associated design, tolerancing, and assembly principles.
  • Experience of resolving complex technical issues using analytical and experimental methods.
  • Experience managing technical risk, product integrity, and compliance within a regulated environment.
  • Intellectual Property, Export Control, and regulatory requirements.
  • Demonstrated record of innovation, capability development, and knowledge leadership.
  • Professionally qualified Engineer (UK minimum BEng degree or national equivalent, with higher degree desirable).
  • UK Chartered Engineer (CEng) or equivalent professional registration.
  • Willingness and drive to progress towards engineering fellowship in this discipline.
  • Demonstrated technical leadership within aerospace fuel systems, mechanical/electro-mechanical control systems, or related safety-critical equipment.
