Job Description
Primary Function of Position:
The Government Affairs Senior Specialist will work with the Director Government Affairs UK/I supporting the development and execution of a high impact Government Affairs strategy. This includes:
- Development of messaging and materials for a variety of external audiences including Members of Parliament, government officials, NHS stakeholders including Executives and other key stakeholders within the political and healthcare systems in England, Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland, and Ireland.
- Actively contributing to implementing short and long-term in-country government affairs strategies that support business and public policy-oriented objectives.
- Promoting the company’s government affairs and business positions to relevant policymakers and policymaking bodies.
- Supporting the provision of counsel to key internal audiences.
- Liaising with external stakeholders.
The role will be responsible for supporting other government affairs activities including but not limited to: thought-leadership opportunities, conference participation, and 3rd-party advocacy. This position will work closely with cross-functional colleagues, including in-country leaders and functions including Sales and Marketing, Health Economics, Clinical Affairs, Regulatory Affairs, Global Access Value Economics (GAVE), Training, and Legal. And this role will work closely with Global Public Affairs colleagues within and across Europe and the US.

Roles and Responsibilities:
This position will support the advancement of Intuitive in the UK & Ireland which includes the following responsibilities:
- Working closely with functional leadership and ecosystem teams to develop, implement, and execute Government Affairs strategies and relevant campaigns, projects, and tactics to agreed timelines.
- Monitoring and analyzing political developments and healthcare policy reforms relevant for Intuitive, providing concise briefings where necessary, identifying emerging risks, and opportunities for the company.
- Assisting with the development of policy positions, consultations responses, messaging, and materials for a variety of internal and external audiences, particularly policymakers.
- Conceptualizing, developing, preparing, and executing stakeholder audience and policy-focused meetings including developing briefing materials.
- Contributing to/representing Intuitive at key industry organizations to advance the company’s policy and advocacy goals and interests.
- Advancing the work of the UKI Government Affairs Director to work across third-party organizations (trade associations, surgical societies, advocacy groups) to develop policy champions and allies.
- Ensuring organizational clarity, assuring that the department’s activities, messages, and materials support the achievement of broader public affairs, country-specific, and company-wide goals and policy objectives.
- Understanding, clearly synthesizing, and integrating complex issues in presentations, messaging documents, and other communications with internal and external audiences.
- Organizing and attending meetings such as roundtables, events, and conferences to represent the company from a Government Affairs perspective.
- Coordinating with external government affairs/public affairs firms to support strategy and activity, as needed.
Qualifications
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Experience:
- Minimum 5 years experience in Government Affairs and/or stakeholder relations.
- Must have relevant policy, political, and/or campaign experience and demonstrated track record of strong advocacy and communications skills.
- Strong preference for healthcare experience, including previous experience working in medtech/pharma and governmental/NHS decision-making.
- Hands-on approach to event management and successful track record preparing events and meetings.
- Superior policy-oriented English writing and editing skills.
- Excellent interpersonal communication skills – verbal and written.
- Ability to work independently in coordination with direct manager, local organization, and cross-functional global teams.
- University degree required.
- Fluent in English, other languages are an advantage.
- Ability to effectively analyze, write, and deliver information, and explain positions and issues to a broad spectrum of individuals.
- Excellent organizational skills, especially ability to monitor and manage multiple campaigns and tracks of work.
- Ability to work independently while also working in coordination with – and across – teams in multiple countries.
- Responsive and focused on executing in a fast-paced environment.
- Experience in a global corporate environment preferred.
- Willing to contribute to projects that fall outside of core responsibilities, as needed.
- Ability to travel throughout UK/I, to Europe-based meetings, and to Intuitive’s Sunnyvale headquarters, total travel up to 20% of the time.
