Job Opportunity: Senior Specialist Hand Therapist

We are seeking an experienced and enthusiastic Hand Therapist to join our specialist hand therapy team at South Tees NHS Trust.

About the Role

We are looking for a dynamic and motivated Hand Therapist, with either a Physiotherapy or Occupational Therapy background, to join our Hand Therapy Team.

The post holder will be expected to have substantial experience in Hand Therapy and the wider musculoskeletal field, as well as evidence of relevant postgraduate study, ideally at Masters level.

This role offers development in clinical and leadership skills, with staff encouraged and supported in their CPD through workshops, relevant courses, and clinical supervision. There is also an expectation to actively participate in audit and research.

Key Responsibilities

  • Work as a Senior Specialist Hand Therapist in our Hand Therapy Unit, based mainly at The James Cook University Hospital, but also holding clinics at Redcar and Northallerton.
  • Co-manage a team of Band 6 Hand Therapists and a Therapy Assistant.
  • Work closely with the Advanced Practitioner Hand Therapist, the Hand Consultants (both Plastics and Orthopaedics), and other members of the MDT.
  • Have substantial experience clinically in hand and musculoskeletal therapy and have experience of management or leadership.
  • Complete, be working towards, or be willing to complete relevant post-graduate study in clinical and/or leadership.
  • Further develop clinical skills by working alongside Advanced Practice Physiotherapists and leadership skills through the Trust’s Leadership Programmes.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
