Are you a highly motivated individual with experience in working children and families?

We are looking for a Band 7 Occupational Therapist (OT) to work within the paediatric OT service at the Evelina London Children's Hospital, at the St Thomas' Hospital site. This is a fixed term post covering a secondment until July 2027.

Role Overview

This post is responsible for leading and developing our service provided to children requiring long term ventilation. This involves working on our home from home long term ventilation unit on Snow Leopard ward and also with respiratory patients on paediatric intensive care and general paediatric wards.

Occupational therapy can help babies, children and young people learn and play, so that they can develop, and reach their full potential and adapt to life with ventilation requirements. Occupational therapy enables them and their families to participate in daily life to improve their health and wellbeing.

Responsibilities

  • Assessing children’s development and occupational performance - providing advice and therapy as required.
  • Working in collaboration with families to screen their home environment and provide assessment and advice for suitable equipment.
  • Working in partnership with the respiratory team and other specialist teams within the hospital as well as the child’s local therapy services to support the family’s transition home.
  • Working closely with the occupational therapists in the inpatient team and providing cover across other hospital wards.

Qualifications

The successful applicant will possess excellent verbal and written communication skills, as liaison multi-disciplinary and with our community colleagues in health, education and social services is essential.

  • Individual supervision from one of the therapists within the paediatric occupational therapy team.
  • Further support by the clinical lead paediatric OT.
  • Professional management by the Trust Head OT.
