Exciting Opportunity at Homerton University Hospital
An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the Homerton University Hospital as a Senior Fellow in Gynaecological Surgery (Open, Laparoscopic, and Robotic).
We are looking to recruit a full-time Senior Specialty Dr/Post CCT clinical fellow to complete our staff of 16 Consultants, 4 Senior Specialty Drs, 17 Registrars and 16 SHOs.
About the Role
The post will ideally suit a senior/post CCT candidate (ST7 level and above) with intermediate/ advanced laparoscopic and open surgical skills, who wishes to develop their operative gynaecology prior to applying for a consultant post. The candidate will work alongside our local gynaecological oncology consultant, who has a full day operating list 3 weeks out of 4, undertaking a mixture of both benign and cancer cases. The Trust has 2 Da Vinci Xi robots; pre-existing robotic experience is not necessary as robotic training can be facilitated.
The candidate will be mentored by the local gynaecological oncology consultant whilst attending a full day operating list 3 weeks out of 4. The postholder will also undertake general gynaecology clinics as well as specialist clinics depending on their interest. They will support elective obstetric work where required for 2 sessions per month.

The 4 Specialty Doctors work a 1 in 4 full shift rota to provide Senior Registrar cover at night, working alongside another registrar and 2 SHOs (the on-call consultant is non-resident after 2200 hrs). This is done by doing a fixed weekday night every week and a Friday-Sunday weekend set of nights every month.
Contract and Hours
The post is offered on a full-time basis on a 12 PA (Programmed Activity) Specialty Doctor/ SAS contract (2021). The contract will be reviewed after 12 months or sooner to ensure that the sessional commitments reflect the needs of the service.
Please note that the job is not compliant with the minimum 46 hour rest period before and after transition between day and night shift as per the 2021 Specialty Doctor Contract.
