Job Title: Senior Specialty Fellow
Start Date: 7th October 2026
Contract Type: Fixed term
Duration: 12 Months
Purpose for Fixed Term: Training Contract
This post is appointed on a fixed-term basis for the primary purpose of providing structured training and supervised clinical development. While the postholder will contribute to service delivery, the overarching purpose of the post is to provide defined educational opportunities, supervised clinical practice, and experience aligned to the relevant specialty training curriculum.

Main duties of the job
We are looking for a Senior Specialty Fellow (post-CCT or equivalent) to help support the otology/ lateral skull base team.
Routine duties of the post include attendance in lateral skull based and advanced otology outpatients’ theatres and supporting the general running of the ENT service.

Detailed Job Description And Main Responsibilities
Key Responsibilities & Clinical Exposure
- Advanced Otology: Supervised surgery for complex chronic ear disease, otosclerosis, and middle ear reconstruction.
- Auditory Implantation: Comprehensive training in cochlear implantation, bone-conducting implants (BCI), and active middle ear implants.
- Lateral Skull Base: Co-management and surgical treatment of acoustic neuromas, skull base tumours (e.g., glomus, meningioma), and facial nerve reanimation.
- Multidisciplinary Teams (MDT): Participate in fortnightly skull base, auditory implantation, and neuroradiology MDT meetings.
- Research & Teaching: Active participation in departmental clinical research programs, clinical audits, and the teaching of junior trainees and medical students.

Essential criteria
- Full GMC registration
- FRCS (ORL) or equivalent
- Must have completed a minimum of 6 years of ENT higher surgical training
- Proven track record in otological surgery with a strong desire to sub-specialize in neurotology and skull base surgery
- Evidence of previous training in Otology and Lateral skull base
- Documented audit experience
Desirable criteria
- Previous experience of working in the NHS
- Possess Certificate of completion of training in ENT (CCT) or CESR

- Ability to motivate and develop the staff in the department

- Ability to offer expert clinical opinion in a range of emergency problems within the speciality
- A wide range of clinical skills and practice in the speciality
- Demonstrates clarity and breadth in use of verbal and written communication in relation to our patient group
- Capacity to take responsibility for own actions and demonstrate a non-judgmental approach towards others. Displays honesty and integrity
- Flexible approach to work - Able to adapt and work with employers to deliver improved patient care
- Adequate IT skills
