📈 Who We Are:
We are rebuilding the energy transaction, making it transparent and fair. Our goal is to put power back where it belongs, in the hands of customers and to take on one of the most critical problems of our century, access to low-cost electricity.
tem exists to fix a broken global energy market that’s long favoured legacy operators, intermediaries, and opaque pricing. Today’s electricity system was not designed for rapid decarbonisation, AI-driven efficiency or fair access for the actual users - businesses and generators.
We’ve built the first AI native transaction infrastructure to reinvent how electricity is bought, sold and priced. Our technology is designed to cut out the inefficient fees, automate complex market flows, and bring transparency and fairness to energy transactions at scale.
In late 2025, after extraordinary growth, we closed a $75 million Series B - led by Lightspeed Venture Partners with participation from Albion, Atomico, Allianz, Hitachi Ventures, Hitachi Ventures, Schroders Capital and others - positioning us for global expansion, deeper product innovation and category leadership.
We’re scaling internationally and building toward a future where AI-driven infrastructure is foundational to electricity markets worldwide.
Since launch, our modern utility product, known as RED, has already facilitated thousands of business customers and billions in energy transaction value, proving that modern software and AI can transform an industry built on legacy systems.
At tem, we’re not just building another energy company, we’re rearchitecting market infrastructure so that transparency, efficiency and sustainability become the default, not the exception.
🏅 The Role:
We're hiring a Senior Staff Software Engineer for Origination & New Products.
This is a hands-on technical leadership role, not a people-management one. You'll lead the Origination & New Products squad through ambiguous, no-precedent build work - deep Rosso integration, pricing capability, and deal-gating risk tooling. You won't own hiring, performance, or comp for anyone in the squad; you'll lead through technical direction, judgement, and execution.
Beyond the squad, you'll be a strategic partner to the Engineering Manager, turning company-level targets into engineering outcomes - starting with growing origination volume through new products over the first 12 months, and later supporting the team as Sell Side expands internationally.
You'll lead a new three-person squad to help you deliver your goals.
You will:
- Own the delivery for new product categories
- Lead technically through execution - design, build, and ship alongside the squad, not just direct it.
- Translate ambiguous, commercially-driven problems into a shape the squad can deliver against.
- Partner with commercial and product stakeholders to keep new-product work tied to real pipeline outcomes.
- Mentor the squad's engineers and raise technical standards, without owning their performance or career progression.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

Only hits
No noise. No "maybe this fits." Just roles with a clear explanation of why they're right — and where to focus when applying.
You will report into the Engineering Manager, Sell Side.
🚀 Responsibilities:
Lead through execution
- Drive the Origination & New Products squad's technical direction on deep integrations with other internal services
- Stay hands-on: design, build, and review the hardest parts of the new-product build sequence yourself.
- Take a company target ("grow origination volume through new products") and break it into a sequenced, deliverable plan without needing to be told how.
Build for ambiguity and risk
- Design systems for categories that don't exist yet at tem - Unlocking TWh’s of new pipeline - where the spec is being written as you go.
- Make judgement calls on commercial risk in deal-gating tooling, not just deliver what's asked.
- Prevent domain drift as new product categories are added, keeping shared language and clear boundaries.
Partner beyond the squad
- Work directly with the Engineering Manager and commercial stakeholders to keep new-product delivery tied to origination pipeline outcomes, not just shipped features.
- As Sell Side expands internationally, represent the technical view in conversations with new-market stakeholders and partners.
- Mentor engineers in the squad and raise engineering standards, while staying on the individual-contributor track.
🎯 Requirements:
Must haves
- Proven technical leadership at Staff or Senior Staff level, with evidence of leading complex, ambiguous initiatives to real business impact - not just technical execution in isolation.
- Comfort operating without a spec: able to take a broad, undefined opportunity and shape it into something buildable.
- Sound commercial judgement - able to reason about deal risk and revenue impact, not just delivery.
- Deep enough platform fluency to integrate against a complex, business-critical system
- Track record leading a squad or team technically through direction and mentorship, without necessarily holding formal people-management responsibility.
- Strong written and verbal communication - comfortable being the technical voice in front of commercial stakeholders and, over time, external partners.
- Comfortable in our core stack: Python, AWS serverless (Lambda, API Gateway, DynamoDB, EventBridge), and event-driven architectures - the same stack Rosso and the rest of Sell Side build on.
