Senior SAN / Block Storage SME - (Fixed Term Contract)

The Role
We are currently looking to hire SAN / Block Storage Engineering SME who will be responsible for the architecture, engineering, optimization, and lifecycle management of enterprise block storage platforms and SAN infrastructure (Fibre Channel / iSCSI).
This role serves as the technical authority for block storage services, ensuring high performance, availability, and compliance across mission-critical environments.
Key Responsibilities
Architecture & Design
- Design scalable and resilient SAN / Block storage solutions
- Define enterprise storage standards, architecture blueprints, and design patterns
- Lead SAN fabric design (dual fabric, zoning strategy, redundancy)
- Perform capacity planning, performance modelling (IOPS/latency)

Engineering & Implementation
- Deploy and configure:
- Block storage arrays (LUNs, volumes, storage groups)
- SAN switches (Brocade, Cisco MDS)
- Implement:
- Fibre Channel zoning (single initiator zoning best practices)
- LUN masking and host mapping
Operations & Support
- Provide L3/L4 support for complex SAN and block storage issues
- Troubleshoot:
- Host-to-storage connectivity issues
- SAN fabric errors (ISL, CRC errors, credit starvation)
- Multipathing issues (MPIO)
Performance & Optimization
- Monitor and tune performance for:
- Low latency and high IOPS workloads (DB, SAP, critical apps)
- Analyze:
- Queue depth, cache utilization, front-end/back-end contention
- Optimize:
- Tiering policies
- Load balancing across controllers and fabrics
Automation & Integration
- Develop automation using:
- Python, Ansible, REST APIs
- Integrate storage provisioning with:
- ServiceNow (request workflows)
- Infrastructure-as-Code pipelines
- Build reusable tools/scripts for:
- Zoning automation
- Provisioning
- Health checks
Core Skills Required
- Strong experience in:
- SAN technologies (Fibre Channel, iSCSI)
- Enterprise block storage arrays
- Hands-on expertise in:
- SAN switches: Brocade / Cisco MDS
- Multipathing: MPIO, PowerPath
- Knowledge of:
- RAID levels, storage tiering, caching

- Scripting: Python, Shell, PowerShell
- Automation: Ansible, Terraform (preferred)
- Monitoring tools:
- Vendor tools (Unisphere, Storage Insights, Pure1, etc.)
- Enterprise monitoring (Splunk, Grafana)
