Job Description

Overview

Join our Building Structures teams in Edinburgh and Glasgow, with the flexibility to work from either office. You will support the design and delivery of diverse projects across Scotland and the UK, applying technical expertise to develop innovative, sustainable, and safe engineering solutions. You’ll apply engineering expertise across a range of building structure projects, supporting delivery from feasibility through construction, developing sustainable and innovative design solutions, collaborating with multidisciplinary teams and stakeholders, and contributing to technical reviews, site inspections, and asset assessments.

Our portfolio spans aviation, education, healthcare, housing, energy, transportation, public infrastructure, industrial, and defence sectors. Backed by a global organisation, you'll gain opportunities to enhance your technical leadership, build client relationships, and contribute throughout the project lifecycle.

You’ll have the opportunity to contribute to schemes at different stages of the project lifecycle, from feasibility, optioneering and technical review through to detailed design, construction support, site inspection and completion. This includes live and emerging work associated with airports, universities, local authorities, emergency services, energy networks, substations, transport infrastructure, building safety, retrofit and the assessment and strengthening of existing assets. The breadth of work offers excellent scope to apply senior technical judgement, develop client relationships and support collaborative delivery across multidisciplinary teams.

Your role

  • Apply technical skills to a wide range of building structures and design scenarios.
  • Develop conceptual solutions through to detailed design stages.
  • Assist in delivering projects within defined programme and cost parameters.
  • Contribute to the multi-disciplinary team approach on projects.
  • Undertake research, data collection, and presentation of findings.
  • Present results to clients under supervision of a lead designer.
  • Present findings and solutions through excellent written communication and report writing.
  • Represent AtkinsRéalis at site visits and design team meetings.
  • Ensure compliance with Quality Assurance procedures.
  • Work in accordance with BIM standards, Digital Plan of Work, and BIM Execution Plans.
  • Support and mentor junior or less experienced team members.
  • Maintain and develop a broad technical skillset.
  • Demonstrate proactive commitment to self-development.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
