Senior Structural Engineer

£60,000 - £75,000 (DOE), Pool car available, fuel card, gym membership, pension, car sacrifice salary

Location: Hybrid working / Thames Ditton, Surrey

Client

Our client is a growing multidisciplinary consultancy, known for delivering high-quality, client-focused surveying and engineering services. Their growth is underpinned by their people. They invest in their development, support their ambitions, and maintain a professional and collaborative culture.

As they continue to grow, they are now looking for an experienced Senior Structural Engineer to join their Structural Engineering team and play a key role in both its development and the continued growth of the business.

They specialise in high-end residential projects, from new build housing developments to refurbishment projects, as well as working with housing associations on affordable housing schemes. Their approach creates a challenging and rewarding environment where talented engineers can develop and excel.

The Role

They are looking for a confident and ambitious Senior Structural Engineer to work closely with the directors and take a leading role within their Structural Engineering team.

Alongside providing technical leadership across a varied portfolio of projects, you'll lead and mentor a team of design engineers and CAD technicians, supporting their development and helping to maintain high standards across the team.

This is an opportunity to take on more than just a technical role. As a senior member of the business, you'll have the opportunity to contribute to the continued growth of the company, getting involved in business strategy, business development and wider company decisions.

You'll have a voice in helping shape the direction of the business, with involvement in areas such as recruitment and team development, as well as the opportunity to share ideas and contribute to our agreed growth strategy and targets.

The successful candidate will also be responsible for preparing structural designs and supporting calculations for new build and renovation projects, attending design team meetings and carrying out structural inspections, reporting on defects and recommending appropriate remedial works.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and mentor a team of design engineers and CAD technicians
  • Provide technical guidance and support, helping junior team members develop their skills and experience
  • Prepare structural designs and supporting calculations for new build and renovation projects
  • Attend design team meetings and contribute to the successful delivery of ongoing projects
  • Carry out structural inspections, report on defects and recommend remedial works
  • Project manage work effectively, ensuring deadlines and quality standards are met
  • Build strong client relationships and contribute to a high level of client satisfaction
  • Contribute to business strategy, development and growth
  • Get involved in recruitment decisions and the continued development of the team
  • Help shape the future direction of a growing, ambitious consultancy

Requirements

  • Chartered Member status of ICE or IStructE
  • Proven experience in structural engineering design and project delivery
  • Ability to lead, mentor and support graduate and intermediate engineers
  • Strong problem-solving and project management skills
  • Commercial awareness and a genuine desire to contribute to the growth of a small business
  • An interest in business development and contributing to wider business strategy
  • Confidence to get involved in recruitment and team development decisions
  • Ability to manage workload effectively and deliver to deadlines without compromising standards
  • Excellent communication skills and a collaborative approach
