Salary: £48,000 - £54,000 (Full-time equivalent) + Performance bonuses up to £5,000/yr

22.5-37.5 hour week | Flexible and hybrid working options

Giraffe Engineering is a dynamic, growing structural engineering consultancy delivering a diverse portfolio of exciting projects. We are passionate about pushing the envelope in efficient design, exploring innovative structural materials, and driving low-carbon, sustainable solutions for our clients.

Our office is located 50 metres from Chippenham train station, which is 13 minutes on the train from Bath, 12 minutes from Swindon and 24 minutes from Bristol.

The Role

As a Senior Structural Engineer, you will take ownership of design delivery across a varied range of schemes from bespoke domestic alterations to major commercial developments.

  • Project Leadership: Manage structural projects from concept through detailed design to construction completion.
  • Client & Multidisciplinary Liaison: Attend site visits and design team meetings, acting as a main point of contact and building strong relationships with architects, contractors, and clients.
  • Structural Design: Perform calculations from first principles and design software across traditional materials (timber, steel, masonry, reinforced concrete) as well as non-traditional, low-carbon materials.
  • Technical Oversight: Guide and collaborate with our technician team in producing high-quality BIM/CAD models, drawings, and structural details.
  • Mentorship: Support and coach graduate/junior engineers, promoting technical growth across the team.

About You

We are looking for a collaborative, self-motivated engineer who shares our passion for engineering excellence and sustainable practices.

Requirements & Qualifications

  • Experience & Work Ethic: Broad practical experience in UK building structures across multiple construction stages, paired with strong independent working discipline and the ability to balance priorities across several active projects.
  • Technical Skills: Sound engineering judgment with the ability to deliver simple, elegant, and efficient structural solutions across various materials.
  • Passion: Motivated by low-carbon design, innovation, and continuous professional development.
  • Chartership: Chartered status (CEng MIStructE / MICE) is welcome but NOT essential. We strongly encourage applications from experienced, non-Chartered engineers.
