What you'll be doing:
As a Structures Engineer, you will support the design, development and ongoing structural integrity of world-leading combat aircraft, training aircraft and unmanned air systems. Working across the full engineering lifecycle, you will apply lessons learned from existing fleets to current and emerging programmes, contributing to structural innovation, fatigue and fracture capability, and airframe performance. This is an opportunity to develop your expertise while supporting some of the world's largest and most advanced defence programmes.
Core Duties:
- Capture, apply and develop expertise in fatigue, durability and crack growth analysis across multiple projects
- Monitor industry and academic developments, identifying opportunities to enhance analysis methods
- Drive standardisation of analysis approaches and adoption of common toolsets
- Provide specialist technical guidance, conduct reviews, and approve analysis activities
- Support Structures Engineers with complex design, manufacturing, repair and advanced analysis challenges

Essential Skills:
- Degree in STEM ideally Mechanical or Structural Engineering
- Experience with Finite Element Method (FEM) structural analysis and technique tools such as Nastran, Patran, Hyper mesh, Abaqus
- Background in Civil engineering or Aerospace
- Previous experience managing a team, ideally in an Aerospace industry
- Familiarity with either optimisation, dynamics, vibration or acoustics analysis
The Structures Engineering Team:
We support one of the biggest defence programmes in the World and have responsibility for improving the fatigue and fracture capability right across the Air Sector. BAE Systems designs, develops and supports a wide range of airborne platforms, operating across the World in some of the most demanding conditions imaginable. The Structures Engineer role will allow you to capture and consolidate hard-won knowledge from our fleets, and apply that to our current and emerging products to ensure that BAE Systems remains at the forefront of Structural innovation.
