Boar Management and Semen Collection Technician
To carry out assigned boar management and semen collection activities accurately, consistently and safely in line with standard operating procedures, company requirements, animal welfare standards, biosecurity protocols and best practice. The role supports the Senior Stud Technician, Boar Stud Leader and wider team by maintaining high standards of animal care, hygiene, facility housekeeping, operational records and compliance, and by promptly escalating animal welfare, biosecurity, maintenance or operational concerns as required.
Responsibilities
- Carry out technical procedures relating to boar management and semen collection accurately and consistently in accordance with standard operating procedures, company requirements and best practice.
- Complete assigned daily operational activities with a focus on quality, efficiency, animal welfare and biosecurity.
- Maintain awareness of animal health and welfare conditions, promptly identifying and reporting abnormalities, behavioural changes, injuries or health concerns.
- Handle animals safely and respectfully in line with company animal welfare standards and regulatory requirements.
- Carry out cleaning, sanitation and hygiene activities to maintain a healthy, safe and compliant environment for animals and employees.
- Follow hygiene and biosecurity procedures consistently to protect herd health and prevent disease introduction or transmission.
- Maintain a clean, organised and professional work environment, ensuring facilities, equipment, tools and work areas are kept to the required standard.
- Support semen collection and boar care activities in line with operational schedules, production requirements and quality expectations.
- Complete operational records, checklists and documentation accurately and in accordance with company standards.
- Identify and communicate operational issues, animal welfare concerns, facility maintenance needs or biosecurity risks to the Senior Stud Technician or Boar Stud Leader.
- Assist with inventory handling, equipment preparation and other operational support activities as required.
- Participate in training and continue to develop technical skills, operational knowledge and role competence.
- Contribute to a positive team environment that supports operational excellence, continuous improvement, safety and compliance.

- Experience in a boar stud, livestock, agricultural or similar operational environment is desirable.
- Ability to follow SOPs, company procedures, work instructions and best practice accurately and consistently.
- Good awareness of animal welfare, safe animal handling, hygiene, biosecurity and facility housekeeping requirements.
- Practical and reliable approach to completing assigned tasks safely, efficiently and to the required standard.
- Good attention to detail when completing operational activities, records, checklists and documentation.
- Good communication skills, with the confidence to raise issues, ask questions and escalate concerns promptly.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a team and support daily operational priorities.
- Willingness to learn, undertake training and work flexibly in line with site requirements and operational demands.
