The role of a Senior Sub-Contract Buyer offers a wide variety of experiences and is both exciting and challenging in its nature. This role in particular represents a unique opportunity to contribute to the Laser and EO development projects.
This role will involve actively working in a Matrix organisation structure supporting a variety of complex assignments for Development Integrated Project Teams (IPT's) in the Laser and EO sector. The focus for this role will be the management of complex sub-contract commitments for requirements that require both tactical and strategic thinking.
The IPTs demand associated with Development continues to grow within the Laser & EO Sector and requires any individual successfully appointed able to translate complex, early concept customer requirements and ensure that these are carefully flowed down to subcontractors ensuring back-to-back campaigns and project execution. I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
