About the Role

AECOM seeks a Senior Sustainability Consultant to join our reputed Sustainability & Decarbonisation Advisory team within the Building Engineering Business Line. This leadership role focuses on helping public and private sector clients achieve low-carbon, resilient, and sustainable estates—with particular emphasis on UK Defence & National Security.
Your expertise will shape a wide scope, including healthcare, education, and commercial projects, while delivering measurable impact through sustainability and carbon strategies.
Key Responsibilities
With guidance from the core team, you will take ownership of:
- Sustainability Strategy & Carbon Reduction
- Partnering with clients to refine sustainability and decarbonisation priorities
- Designing and implementing whole life carbon (WLC) strategies across varied frameworks such as:
- Greater London Authority guidelines
- LETI & RIBA’s Building Confidence and Preparation for(publication) pathways
- RICS/DREAM and BREEAM certifications
- Leed and WELL credentials are an advantage

Conducting sustainability assessments (SAW and SEEAM) and deliverables

Consultation & Planning Support
- Collaborating early-stage with clients, architects, developers, and engineers to embed decarbonisation and resilience principles through design-to-completion.

Certification & Compliance
- Assessing projects for BREEAM and DREAM certification.
- Supporting certification protocols for LEED, WELL, or other emerging frameworks (experience valuable).

Methodologies & Tools
- Proficiency in environmental product declarations (EPDs) and whole life carbon assessments (WLCAs) using tools like OneClick LCA.

Project & Compliance
- Contributing to project programming and timeline coordination

Business Development & Bidding
- Assisting in tender responses and availability submissions

Team Leadership
- Mentoring junior staff to foster professional growth and rising skill levels
Requirements

Technical Knowledge
- Deep understanding of building design and construction processes
- Proven experience in whole life carbon assessments (WLCAs) using OneClick LCA
- Direct experience with BREEAM and DREAM certification processes (LEED/WELL/SAW the more equipped, the stronger)

Skills & Qualities
- Prowess in analytical problem-solving and numerical methodologies to interpret complex data
- Exceptional oral and written communications skills for presenting technical concepts to both executive-level managers and broader stakeholders
- Exceptional attention to detail and structured, solution-focused mindset
- Strong aptitude for bid preparation and project engagement planning
