Job Description
Title: Senior Sustainability Consultant Location: Bristol, UK (Hybrid Model) Team: Sustainability & Decarbonisation Advisory (part of Building Engineering Business Line)
About the Role
AECOM is seeking a Senior Sustainability Consultant to lead our sustainability and decarbonisation advisory for major public and private sector clients. The responsibility lies in delivering low-carbon, resilient, and sustainable estates across sectors including healthcare, education, commercial, with a focus on UK Defence & National Security.

- Supporting clients in developing and refining sustainability and decarbonisation requirements.
- Developing, delivering, and reviewing whole-life carbon (WLC) reduction strategies for varied frameworks, including:
- Greater London Authority guidance
- LETI & RIBA 2023 Environmental Standards
- RICS/RIBA Manifesto, BREEAM (including Precinct/DREAM), and other certification schemes
- LEED and/or WELL experience would be advantageous.
- Assessing and delivering schemes such as SAW (Sustainability Appraisal Wellbeing Tool) and SEEAM (Sustainability Evaluation and Decision-Making Tool).
- Collaborating directly with clients and designers to implement sustainability and decarbonisation strategies from early design phases through to construction.
- Actively supporting project management, programming, and tender responses to win business.
- Mentoring junior staff and contributing to organisational upskilling where applicable.
Requirements
The ideal candidate will possess:
- Strong knowledge of the building design and construction process.
- Proven experience in:
- Conducting Whole-Life Carbon Assessments (WLCAs) using OneClick LCA
- Implementing BREEAM (including Precinct and DREAM schemes) and similar sustainability appraisals.
- Supporting carbon-reduction strategies across multiple frameworks.
- Analytical and numerical proficiency, with the ability to assess data and translate it into practical sustainability solutions.
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills for presenting complex technical information to non-technical stakeholders.
- A methodical and detail-oriented approach to problem solving.
- UK Defence & National Security experience would be advantageous, but not mandatory.
